Roses in the Ocean is a national not for profit organisation founded on and operating through the lens of lived experience of suicide; we exist to save lives and to reduce emotional distress and pain. We seek to lead the significant cultural shift needed to save lives through harnessing the perspectives of all we represent, along with our own lived experience of suicide. With our actions driven and guided by those with a lived experience of suicide, we innovate and transform suicide prevention, and drive and deliver system reform. We support organisations and government to effectively and meaningfully integrate lived experience expertise into suicide prevention.

Everyone who works within Roses in the Ocean has a lived experience of suicide which is defined as ‘having experienced suicidal thoughts, survived a suicide attempt, supported a loved one through suicidal crisis, or been bereaved by suicide.’

About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Safe Spaces, the Capacity Building Coordinator is responsible for the planning and delivery of support to Community-led Safe Space Working Groups in capacity building activity as they work towards transitioning from Roses in the Ocean auspicing to be self-sustainable ongoing community-based supports.

The objective of this role is to support the integration of Community-led Safe Space sites in their local areas through capacity building activities with a plan for self-sustainability.

Working closely with the broader Community-led Safe Spaces team, this role will contribute to the development of resources as well as providing on-the-ground grassroots support for Working Groups with a focus on strategies to enhance service integration, volunteer retention, fundraising, community engagement and sustainability.

Responsibilites include:

In collaboration with the Head of Safe Spaces and Project Coordinators, develop and implement an annual activity plan and travel calendar.

Contribute to a communications and marketing strategy to support the implementation and uptake of Community-led Safe Spaces.

Develop and foster relationships with relevant community and organisational stakeholders to increase Roses in the Ocean local presence, the integration of the project into broader service systems and identify opportunities for collaboration.

Identify local partnerships with scope to support in community resources

Identify opportunities to increase the awareness and presence of Roses in Ocean (including service delivery and capacity building workshops).

Identify the need for and contribute to the development of project specific resources to support volunteer recruitment and retention, community engagement, fundraising and sustainability strategies.

Contribute to the development and co-facilitation of Community of Practice sessions and hub content for Working Group members and volunteers.

Attend and support the facilitation of induction sessions and community consultation sessions

Contribute to the support of Working Groups organisation and attendance at local activities and community-based events to support service promotion and local fundraising activities.

You will need a flexible and resourceful approach, with a focus on detail , to effectively support multiple working groups, personalities and develop a depth of understanding of the concept and service model.

Please note, if you live within the Brisbane greater region, there will be an expectation for you to work a Hybrid model, 2 days from home, 3 days in our office located in Newstead. If you live in regional Queensland or Interstate you can work remotely from home.

About You

You’ll bring with you:

A lived experience of suicide and an understanding of the impact it has on families, workplaces, friends and communities.

Personal values that align with those of Roses in the Ocean and the Lived Experience Guiding Principles.

Previous experience in stakeholder engagement and partnership development.

Previous experience in community development initiatives.

A strong understanding of projects/models which offer alternatives to clinical supports would be desirable.

Must be able to work flexible times including some evenings and weekends (time in lieu arrangements negotiable).

Experience in managing competing priorities, complex tasks and coordinating activities.

High-level written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate and liaise effectively and sensitively at all levels, both internally and externally.

Demonstrated capacity to maintain confidentiality and professional standards of behaviour in difficult and sensitive circumstances.

Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.

Demonstrated time-management, logistics and problem-solving skills.

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Office 365, Monday.com and SharePoint. A working knowledge of Volaby would be beneficial.
