About Us

Apunipima Cape York Health Council is a community controlled Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health service, which provides culturally appropriate, family centred, primary health care services to the communities and people of Cape York.

About the role

The Registered Nurse – Outreach is responsible for delivering evidence based primary health care nursing services consistent with the Apunipima Way and Model of Care, to maximise health outcomes for the people of Cape York. As the Registered Nurse – Outreach, you will work independently in Lockhart River to deliver quality services including child and family health, health education activities and chronic disease management.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

Proven experience as a Practice Nurse or Registered Nurse in a Primary Health Care setting.

Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate and evaluate complex client care across the primary health care continuum.

Demonstrated experience and competence in clinical problem solving.

High level nursing knowledge and skills to assess, plan, implement and evaluate client care.

Demonstrated competency in compliance with clinical environment requirements, particularly in relation to infection control and management of the cold chain process.

A high-level understanding of the importance of quality, safety and risk in a healthcare environment.

High level knowledge of legislation, standards, policies and procedures relevant to contemporary nursing practice and specific to primary health care.

Advanced interpersonal and communication skills that support competent nursing practice, mentoring of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers, and working within a multidisciplinary team environment.

Proven ability to work effectively as a member of a team with an ability to facilitate, promote and adapt to change.

Understanding of the historical and contemporary issues that impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their communities, particularly in Cape York.

Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in accordance with community protocols and customs.

Demonstrated understanding of the principles of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community control.

Must be willing and have the ability to travel in Cape York either by light aircraft or 4WD as required.

Mandatory Requirements:

A degree qualification in Nursing

Current Health Practitioner registration with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a RN (Division 1)

Australian Federal Police Check, or willing and able to obtain prior to commencement

Current Queensland Drivers Licence

Desired:

Queensland Immunisation Endorsement, or willingness to work toward andobtain the endorsement within a specified timeframe

Post graduate qualification

Demonstrated experience working in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, preferably in Cape York

Competitive salary range - $107,524 - $117,863 + 11.5% superannuation contribution
