The Role
People Systems and Payroll Services Branch is seeking to create a merit pool to fill current and future EL1 vacancies in our large Pay and Administration Centres based in Bandiana – VIC, Melbourne CBD - VIC; and Raymond Terrace - NSW.
You will be responsible for:
- Providing excellent people leadership, fostering employee wellbeing including providing clear and consistent communication, setting clear performance and behavioural standards, managing performance, and guiding and developing people;
- Managing resources effectively including managing workflow, setting priorities, developing strategies and evaluating business outcomes;
- Resolving complex payroll issues by undertaking appropriate consultation, research and analysis, and providing advice and recommendations on appropriate courses of action;
- Building and sustaining collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve business outcomes;
- Working collaboratively to support business continuity across Defence People Group’s services;
- Championing a customer-focused culture to achieve quality service delivery and reform.

We are an organisation at the forefront of delivering agile and efficient customer-focused payroll and personnel administration services to Defence, Australian Signals Directorate and Australian Submarine Agency personnel.
People Systems and Payroll Services within Defence People Group enables Defence capability and supports the Defence community through resilient and trusted people and payroll services. Our core business includes:
- Delivering timely and accurate payroll services to 100,000 Defence people.
- Developing, sustaining and managing people and payroll systems including data security.
- Providing reliable people and payroll systems advice, and influencing reform across the department.
