Posted 18 days ago
Established 115 years ago, Mount Barker High School was built to serve the local community and this ethos has stood at its heart ever since. Our motto, not for ourselves alone, reflects these close community links. We value the relationship we have with the local community and encourage our students in a range of community endeavours. Our school is focused on preparing students for a rapidly changing future. We offer a broad range of programs for our students, recognising the diversity of our school community and providing each student with the opportunity to actively and positively engage with the world around them.
Mount Barker High School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate teacher to join one of our disability unit classes for the remainder of the 2025 school year. This position is ideal for an educator who values relationship-based teaching, individualised learning, and a strengths-based approach to student development and is willing to upskill where needed. We are looking for an educator who understands the importance of building safe, trusting relationships and creating a learning environment that supports students with complex physical and intellectual needs.
This role requires a person who is interested in developing:
Knowledge of complex disabilities and curriculum modification to ensure all students experience success.
Ability to work as part of a classroom team with SSO's and a health support officer. Able to delegate duties as required.
Knowledge of trauma-informed practice, with an understanding of how past experiences impact student engagement and learning.
Knowledge of using ABLES for assessment and reporting and incorporating ACARA General Capabilities into programming and assessment, or willing to develop skills in this area.
Ability to write accurate and comprehensive One Plans that support student development with the use of therapy team and family input.
A commitment to a Team Around the Child approach, working collaboratively with support staff, therapists, and families to provide holistic care.
Additional skills in augmentative communication systems, Key Word Sign, literacy programs, and sensory regulation are advantageous but not essential.
If you don’t have direct disability teaching experience, please still apply. We welcome educators with transferable teaching skills and a willingness to learn. Support and professional development will be provided.
Please note that part time and flexible arrangements will be considered.
