Logistics Manager – Construction Materials (NSW & ACT)

  • Lead logistics operations across 56 regional NSW and ACT sites, managing 200+ heavy vehicles
  • Drive cost reduction, asset utilisation, and compliance across company, LDO, and MFO fleets
  • Strategic and tactical leadership role ideally based in Newcastle, reporting to the GM

Lead logistics across NSW regional and ACT construction materials sites. Manage 200+ heavy vehicles, optimise fleet performance, safety, compliance and contractor relationships.

A major national construction materials business is seeking a high-performing Logistics Manager to lead the delivery and fleet operations across regional NSW and the ACT. With responsibility for over 200 heavy vehicles operating across 56 sites, this critical leadership role will suit a hands-on operator who thrives in complex, fast-moving environments.

Based ideally in Newcastle, and reporting to the General Manager for NSW/ACT, you’ll oversee all aspects of fleet and contractor management, safety and compliance, asset utilisation, and cost optimisation across a vast geographical footprint.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead logistics operations and people across NSW regional and ACT construction materials sites, ensuring compliance with all safety protocols
  • Manage a large mixed fleet of company drivers, Lorry Driver Operators (LDOs), and Multi Fleet Operators (MFOs)
  • Drive operational performance including asset availability, fleet utilisation, and CPU (cost per unit)
  • Ensure full compliance with NHVR, Chain of Responsibility (CoR), licensing, and safety regulations
  • Manage all aspects of heavy vehicle asset maintenance, including ageing fleet challenges
  • Develop and deliver on financial targets and resource optimisation, including cartage cost reduction, maintenance savings and labour
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders, from frontline drivers to senior leaders and suppliers
  • Take ownership of operational and strategic decisions to support long-term business growth

Key Challenges in the Role:

  • Leading transformational change across a large, decentralised network
  • Optimising fleet productivity across a geographically dispersed region with localised issues
  • Enhancing driver performance and engagement to improve asset utilisation
  • Lifting asset reliability and managing cost through effective maintenance of an ageing fleet
  • Building and sustaining strong stakeholder relationships across functions and locations

About You:
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring a rare combination of operational grit, leadership presence, and commercial acumen. You’ll also demonstrate:

  • Solid experience in logistics or fleet operations within the construction materials or heavy transport sector
  • Deep understanding of NHVR, CoR, and other regulatory frameworks
  • Experience managing a P&L and driving cost reduction strategies
  • Strong background in fleet maintenance planning and contractor management
  • Demonstrated success leading and optimising mixed workforce models (LDO, MFO, company drivers)
  • A collaborative leadership style with the confidence to make autonomous, high-impact decisions

What Success Will Look Like:

  • Reduced cartage and maintenance costs
  • Improved asset utilisation and CPU
  • Increased reliability and availability of heavy vehicles
  • Safe and compliant operations across all sites
  • Strong rapport with drivers and stakeholders
  • A step-change in fleet performance and culture

An attractive salary package including a 10% STI and use of a company vehicle will be offered to the preferred candidate. If you are ready to lead the transformation of a critical logistics operation and deliver real, measurable results, submit your CV and a cover letter outlining your suitability for this exciting opportunity.
