Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of disadvantaged and disengaged young students and creating a nurturing environment for their wellbeing? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you! Y Community School in Epping is seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our team as Student Wellbeing Specialist.
What's the opportunity?
The Y Community School has been established to respond to the needs of young people who are disengaged or at significant risk of disengaging from mainstream education. As our Student Wellbeing Specialist, get ready to make a meaningful impact by fostering a nurturing environment for both wellbeing and learning! Your prime focus is to elevate students' daily wellbeing, ensuring they're geared up for an enriching learning journey. Collaborate with school staff, external professionals, and parents to maximise support and elevate the overall wellbeing of our students. It's not just a role - it's an invitation to be part of a meaningful journey.
Who on earth are we?
Y Whittlesea is a not-for-profit that happens to be part of the oldest youth organisation in the world and oldest social enterprise where all profits go back into our communities. The Y School is a fresh initiative, crafting a safe and inclusive learning environment for young people aged 15-20 who may have faced disengagement from education. We're all about providing support, services, and programs to empower individuals to achieve their goals and lead dignified lives. Be a part of something bigger!
What do we hope you'll bring?
- Legal right to live and work in Australia.
- Degree/Diploma in Social Work, Youth Work, Counselling, or Education.
- Current Employee Working with Children Check.
- Police Check (International if you have lived outside Australia in the last 5 years).
- Current First Aid & CPR, or willing to obtain.
- A compassionate and supportive approach.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong commitment to the safety and wellbeing of young people.
- Valuable experience in promoting wellbeing, crisis intervention, and supporting individuals with poor mental health.
- An innate work ethic, respect and care for others, and consistent integrity to all that you do.
Why should I want to be a Y Community School Wellbeing Specialist?
Real purpose, passion and impact: at Y Whittlesea you will embark on a rewarding journey where you can make a positive impact in the lives of vulnerable and disengaged young people. All this whilst also knowing that you are part of something bigger: Disability services, Community Schools and much more where all surpluses go back into our communities.
You'll also enjoy the benefits of:
- A flexible and supportive workplace with a fantastic team culture.
- Free on-site gym access.
- Ongoing professional development opportunities.
- Competitive rates and salary packaging.
- Up to 3 bonus annual leave days between Christmas and New Years day.
Why might the Y not be right for me?
We rarely do ridiculous hours, but we do work very hard, every day.
You'll need to be highly organised, self-motivated and used to working as a team.
We value feedback highly, and will expect you to speak up, ask questions and share knowledge and we will do the same.
