The role provides culturally appropriate legal advice and representation to clients affected by domestic and family violence and/or sexual assault, consistent with ALS policy. The role requires legal experience attention to detail, and the ability to mentor/supervise junior staff, while advocating for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.

- Support the state-wide helpline with legal advice and referrals for vulnerable clients experiencing domestic violence or sexual assault.
- Attend Duty Lawyer Services for family violence matters and manage a busy caseload while contributing to law reform and policy submissions.
- Mentor junior solicitors, ensuring compliance with ALS policies and ethical standards.
- Deliver community legal education on key legal issues, create presentations and fact sheets for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Provide leadership, set performance goals, and ensure effective team operations while maintaining professional competence and compliance.
Who Are We Looking For?

- At least 3 years of experience in family and domestic violence, care & protection, or family law.
- Hold legal qualifications and a current NSW or ACT Practising Certificate or the ability to obtain one immediately.
- Experience conducting matters in Local Courts/Magistrate’s Courts, Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia.
- Strong written and oral communication, time management, legal research, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with the ability to travel to regional locations for work.
- Maintain expertise in family and domestic violence, care & protection, or family law, including court procedures in NSW or ACT, and deliver legal education on these issues in Aboriginal communities.
- Ability to travel to ALS various offices. An inherent requirement of the job is the ability to independently travel to regional locations for work purposes.
