But the smart ones know resilience is integral to customer retention. Baking resilience into engineering culture early also means you can build faster.

All of this leads to long-term, healthy profit margins. And in turn, happy, productive engineering teams.

Which is why they’re investing in SRE. The expectation is they’ll triple their user base in the next three years. They’re already global and already have millions of users.

So what’s it like on the ground here?

This team has been built by an ex-Google SRE. So you can trust things are being done ‘the right way’.

There is no on-call work. Other teams will support you there, so you won’t have to worry PagerDuty chirping at you in the middle of the night. They operate with a hybrid model, two days in the office with flexible hours. Nobody is watching the clock.

You won’t be burdened by outdated legacy tech. Instead, you’ll find over 1000 services running across AWS and GCP. It’s all cloud-native tech following event-driven architecture and a platform operating model.

The team you’ll join is still a good size. Big enough and established so you’re surrounded by smart people and have support. Small enough that you can still make an impact.

It's an 'open door' policy. You have access to anyone and everyone including the CTO, VPs and different product and engineering squads. Everyone's friendly, so these conversations won't leave you feeling uncomfortable.

What might impact look like?

Your focus will be on capacity management. Or, what happens (breaks) when things scale.

Some of the initiatives include;

Chaos Engineering Workshops. Hosted by Dynatrace, they’ll stress test systems and break things. There are prizes for the engineers who figure out what broke, how they broke it and how to stop it from breaking again.

An AI-first approach to strategy. You’ll be encouraged to explore how you can leverage AI across tech and tools to improve reliability. If it makes sense, the investment is there to adopt your findings.

There's lot's more, but probably too much to list in one job ad. That said, it's worth mentioning we're also looking for an additional SRE Manager to join the team whose sole focus will be developing and upskilling the people in the team. That should give you an idea about the culture.

What experience do you need?

You might already be an SRE looking for like-minded people. You might come from a Platform or DevOps Engineering background and want to leverage your skills in a new way. Or you might be a SWE who advocates for resilience and enjoys working on performance tuning and load testing.
