About the role
We have a fantastic opportunity within our Legal Team! We are currently seeking a self-motivated and skilled individual to join us.
The Legal and Privacy Officer works as a member of a team providing legal services and advice in areas including local government, planning, land management, property, transactions, environmental protection, privacy and compliance to assist in the conduct of efficient and effective legal services to meet the City of Swan’s corporate goals. The Legal Team works to support robust decision making, policy development and implementation, as well as operational functions.
Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to;
- Develop and implement the City’s Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing (PRIS) policies and framework;
- Develop and deliver privacy training and awareness for City staff to improve understanding of the risks and benefits of protecting and sharing information;
- Provide internal privacy advice about a range of matters, including on the development of new initiatives that have a potential privacy impact;
- Ensure that the City's data is managed and protected in such a manner as to deliver compliance with the PRIS legislation;
- Provide support to prepare, assist with and quality assure legal documents for business units across the City of Swan.
- Support the General Counsel to deliver a responsive service to officers to address complex legal and compliance issues as they arise.
- Support the implementation of the City’s legislative compliance framework, including management of the compliance register and reporting.
- Undertake research to support investigations in relation to compliance issues and breaches of the legislation.
About you
The successful candidate will have the following:
- Admitted or qualified for admission as a solicitor or barrister in the Supreme Court of Western Australia and hold, or be eligible to hold, a WA practicing certificate
- Knowledge of local government, PRIS and other applicable legislation
- Sound knowledge of IT General Controls environment / COBiT requirements
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to function as a part of a team and liaise with internal and external stakeholders
- A satisfactory National Police Certificate

The salary for this position will be from $91,194.72 to $108,194.90 per annum, depending on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
