Your Opportunity

As the Facilities Officer you will be responsible for:

• undertaking professional grounds maintenance and improvement activities, ensuring a safe, clean and hygienic environment is available for Region clients, employees and the general public;

• the timely and appropriate provision of support relating to maintenance and educational delivery support requests, and procurement/purchasing activities; and

• ensuring the maintenance of a safe work environment, consistent with TAFE Queensland’s ‘Safety First’ value.

This position reports to the Manager, Infrastructure and Operations.

This is a Temporary, Full-time opportunity, to 13 October 2025 unless otherwise determined.

The position will be based primarily at Alexandra Hills however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to the success of the organisation through promoting and modelling SkillsTech’s core values and Agreed Behaviours and the established TAFE Queensland values of Working Together, Focussing on our Customer, Taking Responsibility, Showing Initiative, and Safety First.

• Act as a point of contact for contractors and visitors at the Alexandra Hills training centre and provide support to TAFE Queensland employees, students, and other site tenants, as required.

• Utilise a range of computerised systems to undertake facilities-related administrative tasks including maintenance requests, purchasing, and mailbox management.

• Assist in responding to alarms, medical emergencies, fires and other similar matters, assisting the emergency response team during evacuations and drills, and contacting appropriate emergency services, if required.

• Contribute to a ‘Safety First’ culture through the provision of first aid services, the timely identification, reporting, and where possible, rectification of potential safety risk, and active participation in safety committees.

• Plan and coordinate landscape maintenance and improvements to grounds, ensuring upkeep of all grassed areas, trees, shrubs and plants.

• Maintain grounds, machinery and equipment, undertake basic repairs and routine maintenance activities including test and tag, and assist other team members with facilities-related tasks such as cleaning of site facilities, buildings and equipment, and emptying bins, as required.

• Obtain quotes from suppliers, coordinate and reconcile associated purchase orders, undertake ordering and purchasing activities, and maintain supplies in line with applicable existing and future maintenance schedules and priorities.

• Proactively contribute to maintaining a safe work environment in relation to operations activities by conducting regular safety audits and equipment checks (Standard Operating Procedures (SOP); maintenance; Job Safety Environmental Analysis (JSEA’s); and chemical/hazardous storage), ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and TAFE Queensland and Region workplace health and safety policies and procedures.

• Proactively participate in local Performance Planning and Development (PPD) processes, seeking opportunities for self-development and contributing to the development of the Operations team.

How you will be assessed

The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:

• Sound knowledge, or the ability to acquire knowledge, of legislation, policy and procedures relevant to facilities and operations, workplace health and safety and general administrative functions.

• Ability to develop and maintain positive and collaborative working partnerships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

• Proficiency in the use of a range of computerised systems and applications relevant to facilities and operations.

• Demonstrated communication and problem solving skills, including the ability to work well under pressure and deliver successful outcomes within time and resourcing constraints.

• Ability to effectively work both autonomously and also contribute to a high performing team, ensuring that all work is completed to a high standard within negotiated timeframes and proactively seeking and facilitating opportunities for self-development.

Mandatory Qualifications/Requirements

Mandatory requirements:

• Possession of a ‘C’ Class Queensland Driver’s Licence; and
• Possession of, or willingness to obtain, a Blue card ‘Working with Children’ (see below):

Highly desirable requirements:

• Current First Aid Certificate; and
• Possession of a Forklift Ticket.
