About the Role

The Student Services Manager is responsible for the delivery of a superior student experience as part of the Academy’s reputation for quality in everything it does.

As a Team Member of Flinders University Academy, you will be driven to provide its students with everything they need to ensure their wellbeing, build their confidence, and develop their skills; so that our students realise their full potential as a student at a leading Australian University that cares.

The Student Services Manager will be an engaged leader committed to insuring quality student outcomes. They will manage a small, dedicated team who support international students across the student lifecycle. Working closely with the Director and Principal and key university personnel, the position contributes to ensuring students receive high quality, student-focused and innovative experiences that support a seamless transition between their pathway and degree courses. The Student Services Manager is expected to provide professional and efficient support services to senior management and academic staff within the Academy for a range of student, teaching and learning related matters critical to the successful operations of the Academy and success of its students.

The position may require occasional travel as required, including an expectation of working outside normal hours with restrictions on taking leave during peak work periods.

More specifically, the Student Services Manager will be expected to:

  • Lead and manage the provision of high-quality pathway course services that ensure international students are supported and have a positive study experience. This includes planning, prioritizing, and managing team activities and performance, ensuring effective and efficient service delivery across the student, teaching and learning lifecycles for students and academic staff in the Academy.
  • In collaboration with Flinders University, take the lead in the initial development of Academy student support systems and processes to maximize efficiency and provide superior quality services to students.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, supervision, and performance management of Academy student services staff, including fostering a team environment that embraces collaboration and a culture of customer service and continuous improvement across a range of student administration and support service activities.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring compliance with internal and external policy frameworks, recognized standards and legislative requirements related to higher education and international education in Australia, including compliance with the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act and National Code, including standards for the provision of English-language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS).
  • Work with areas of the University and attending forums/meetings/committees where necessary, to contribute to collaboration on ideas and projects and to support the delivery of a seamless and consistent customer experience across the University.
  • Support the University's response to critical incidents including taking the lead in the management and resolution of isolated incidents affecting the welfare of students, including providing individual support and advocacy for students with complex needs as required.
  • Develop and maintain excellent collaborative working relationships with external stakeholders, including agencies providing international student services, and internal stakeholders including Flinders University Colleges and Professional Portfolios.
  • Work with University WHS staff to ensure that all WHS issues and risks are managed in accordance with legislation and university policy.
  • Manage the operational aspects of delivery of Academic programs at the Flinders City Campus, in collaboration with the Academic Director.
  • Any other responsibilities in line with the position as assigned by the Supervisor and/or the Academy.

The role is a two-year fixed term contract.

Prescribed Conditions for Employment
It is a requirement of this position that the incumbent maintain a current Working With Children Check which is satisfactory to the University in accordance with the Child Safety (Prohibited Persons) Act 2016 (SA).

A valid National Police Certificate which is satisfactory to the Academy will also be required before the successful applicant can commence in this position.
