Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia (A&AA), a registered charity, is experiencing unprecedented growth, and there has never been a better time to join Australia’s trusted patient support organisation for people with allergic disease.
This role, as a part of a team of allergy educators, has primary responsibility for the provision of expert knowledge of the key issues and effective strategies relevant to the management of allergic disease including the risk of anaphylaxis.
The main purpose of the role is to provide expert knowledge, guidance and support, and advocate to improve the health and wellbeing of Australians living with allergic disease.
Additional responsibilities include identifying and fostering relationships, networks and partnerships to further promote evidence-based care for people with allergic disease.
The key accountabilities are:
- Provision of support and guidance to those seeking assistance in managing allergic disease(s) by offering evidence-based information, resources and guiding people to appropriate health professionals
- Development and review of resources including health promotion messaging through social media and other digital platforms
- Promotion and communication of the patient experience
- Advocacy through participation in professional networks, working groups and written submissions.
- Translation and dissemination of published research and best practice information into the community

We advocate on their behalf to ensure their voice is heard. To improve awareness of allergic disease in the wider Australian community, we share current evidence-based information, educate, advocate and promote research. Our outreach extends to individuals, families, school, workplaces, health professionals, government, food industry and all Australians.
A&AA works in partnership with the peak professional body, Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA) as the National Allergy Council. Allergy educators are actively involved in working groups, committees, national projects and research.
TO ENSURE YOUR SUCCESS IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL HAVE:
Essential
- Tertiary qualifications in a health-related field
- Experience in public health, patient/consumer education, health promotion or clinical practice in chronic health conditions
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work both within the organisation and with key stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a small team environment
- Strong presentation skills
- Strong writing skills
- Willingness to support the organisation’s culture, purpose, policies and procedures
- Flexibility to occasionally work outside regular office hours.
Desirable/Highly Regarded
- 5 plus years in a health-related role
- Understanding of and/or experience in allergic disease
- Understanding of the challenges faced by people with allergic conditions and their carers
- Knowledge of and experience with patient/health advocacy
- Experience in allergy management in clinical practice will be highly regarded or knowledge of allergy management in a related field (e.g. nutrition, public health)
- Strong conceptual and analytical skills
- Demonstrable skills in provision of support to people managing a chronic illness;
- Skills in the use of modern workplace tools (e.g. Office 365, SharePoint, Salesforce or digital case management).
Candidates with extensive experience in allergy, who reside outside of the Sydney area, will be considered.
