The Opportunity

A new opportunity has arisen for a People, Culture and Safety Coordinator to join our People and Culture team supporting the implementation of our new Workplace Health and Safety Management System and support general HR employee lifecycle activities.

Reporting to the People & Culture Manager, the overall objective of this new role is to oversee systems and wellbeing initiatives, ensuring compliance with work health and safety regulations.

This is a newly created full-time role for a 12-month fixed term, based in the Sydney office with 2 days that can be worked from home.

Workplace health and safety responsibilities include:

  • Take a lead role in the implementation of health and safety systems, policies and practices and related consultation.
  • Oversee and continuously improve WHS management systems through audits, inspections, data analysis and compliance with legislation.
  • Accurately maintain and regularly update all health and safety registers.
  • Coordinate the design, delivery and compliance of WHS training programs to up-skill staff and managers with safety knowledge, risk assessment and hazard management.
  • Coordinate the design, development and implementation of projects and activities focused on holistic wellbeing and safety culture.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant policies, procedures and legislation in order to provide timely and effective WHS support and advice to the wider organisation.
  • Review and update workplace health and safety policies and procedures to ensure alignment with legislative requirements and industry best practices.
  • Assist in the development and management of injury management and injury prevention processes and programs.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment while complying with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Escalate all workplace accidents and hazards and implement immediate action for identified hazards, where required.
  • Drive workplace consultative meetings and recommend improvements to relevant workplace health and safety practices within the workplace.

Human Resources responsibilities include:

  • Provide generalist HR support across the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, learning and development, performance management and offboarding.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures, and compliance frameworks.
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of an internal training plan.
  • Maintain HR records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with confidentiality requirements.
  • Support organisational change initiatives and culture building activities.
  • Coordinate and administer employee engagement initiatives, wellbeing programs and recognition activities.
  • Assist with HR system administration as required.
  • Advise and support leadership in fostering a diverse, inclusive and equitable workplace culture.

Other desirable experience:

  • Exposure to ISO 45001, ELMO and SharePoint.
  • Experience in managing projects, including system implementation and troubleshooting.
  • Sound working knowledge of workers compensation systems.

What we need from you:

  • Strong organisation and time management skills with the capacity to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work with sensitive information, maintaining privacy and confidentiality.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport, engage and influence at all levels.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to address issues proactively.
  • Ability to lead and influence cultural and behavioural change initiatives.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Indigenous societies, cultures and issues affecting Indigenous Australians in business.
  • Relevant qualifications in Human Resources and/or Work Health and Safety or demonstrated relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing WHS systems and initiatives.
  • Proven experience in generalist HR functions.
  • Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Proficiency in HRIS and WHS systems.
