The Role

This full time opportunity is for a highly motivated, professional with sound technical tax knowledge and attention to detail. You will have the ability to manage, mentor and train junior staff as well as work alongside other senior accountants.

This position is not just a back-office position. You will have lots of client contact, including phone calls and face to face meetings. You will work closely with and report to our Partners. The ideal candidate will be confident, motivated, have outstanding written and verbal communication skills and be able to work in a friendly and professional team environment. Candidates should have a minimum 10 years’ experience in public practice and ideally be a registered tax agent. They should be able to confidently complete complex financial statements / tax returns, manage a portfolio of clients, as well as manage the workflow of other accounting staff, whilst providing support to the Partners. Remuneration will depend on individual experience.

Duties include:

• Preparing and completing complex financial statements and tax
• Periodic and annual tax planning work (budgeting, forecasting, tax minimisation solutions)
• Manage staff and their workflow
• Manage WIP and undertake client billing
• Liaising with clients
• Liaising with internal and external bookkeepers
• Client meetings
• Mentoring and training less experienced accountants
• Review of tax returns and financials prepared by other staff
• Assist the Partners with BAS reviews in peak times

Essential Skills and Experience:

• Business Degree majoring in Accounting or Commerce
• Minimum 10 years tax experience in an Australian based accounting firm
• Div 7A loans, capital gains calculations, different business structures
• Proven track record working on multiple clients at once
• Experience working with KPIs and billing targets
• Intermediate level of MS Excel spreadsheets
• High level attention to detail
• A positive attitude, high degree of initiative, motivation and problem-solving ability
• Tech savvy
• Quick thinker
• Non-Smoker
• Strong verbal and written communication skills

Desirable:

• CPA / CA
• Tax agent registration
• Able to advise on and assist clients with Cashflow management, profit improvement
• Solid working knowledge of Xero and/or MYOB
• A sound understanding of GST treatment
• Experience with preparing tax returns in Xero Practice Manager / Xero Tax
• Experience with preparing financials in Xero ledger
• Experience advising on different entity structures
