Position: School Officer - Assisting Student Learning
Salary Range: $31.64 - $32.31 per hour depending on experience
Tenure: Term Time, Permanent
Hours: 23 hours per week
Commencing Date: Term 2, 2025

St Francis Catholic School, Hughenden is a co-educational Catholic school located in the rural township of Hughenden. St Francis is a small and close-knit community with 47 students from Prep to Year 6. Established in October 1900 with the arrival of the Good Samaritan Sisters, St Francis School is today administered by a lay principal and staff. The school’s culture is underpinned by the heritage of the Franciscan Friars and St Francis of Assisi who said, "Where there is love and wisdom there is neither fear nor ignorance." Southern Cross Catholic College is currently seeking a School Officer - Assisting Student Learning. The position is a term time, permanent role commencing 22 April 2025 completing 23 hours per week.
About the role
The School Officer – Assisting Student Learning (ASL) works under the direction and supervision of a teacher to provide learning and classroom support to all students including students who have identified additional needs to access and participate in schooling.
Typical Duties
The typical duties of the role may include:
a. Providing support to individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to participate in learning and school activities
b. Assisting students (either individually or in groups) with specific learning needs including scribing, reading, which may include providing feedback and observations to the classroom teacher(s)
c. Assisting in the support of student engagement by reinforcing appropriate student behaviour
d. Providing practical assistance to students in using classroom technology
e. Performing administrative tasks of record maintenance, producing resources (eg. Printing, laminating etc) and other classroom administrative support
f. Assisting in the maintenance of a clean and tidy classroom environment including storage facilities and assisting in setting up appropriate classroom/learning space
g. Providing routine support to students in relation to their physical needs (eg. mobility support) and personal care (eg. toileting, feeding)
Mandatory Criteria
- Current Working with Children Suitability Card - The successful candidate will require a paid Blue Card before commencement as per the No Card, No Start policy developed by Queensland Government
- Current Drivers Licence
- Ability to travel from time to time within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville.
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner.
Desirable Criteria
- No formal qualification is required;, however, a Cert III in School Based Education Support or equivalent.
