HSE Advisor - Perth Based - Gold Exploration

The Position:

Our client is an established gold exploration company that is looking for a Perth-based HSE Advisor to join their corporate team. They have already achieved major success and have a vision to further expand their operations. Because of this, they are looking to bring someone onto the team in a permanent position. The ideal candidate will be someone who prefers long-term engagements and is comfortable with occasional site visits.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety management systems in accordance with relevant WHS legislation and ISO 45001 standards.
  • Lead and facilitate risk assessments across the Discovery group to identify, analyse, and mitigate workplace hazards.
  • Monitor compliance with WHS legislation and company HSE policies, ensuring accurate record-keeping and documentation.
  • Provide expert guidance to operational teams and senior management on health and safety matters, offering practical risk mitigation strategies.
  • Design and deliver safety training programs, including toolbox talks and site inductions, to ensure all personnel and contractors are informed and competent.
  • Conduct incident and near-miss investigations using root cause analysis, prepare comprehensive reports, and oversee corrective action implementation.
  • Coordinate and supervise occupational hygiene monitoring for environmental hazards such as dust and noise, ensuring effective control measures and record maintenance.
  • Develop and test emergency response plans tailored for remote exploration sites, ensuring resource availability and readiness.
  • Engage with traditional landowners, local communities, regulators, and contractors to ensure alignment with health and safety expectations and requirements.
  • Perform routine site inspections and audits of exploration activities to identify risks, verify compliance, and promote best practices.
  • Analyse HSE data and trends to drive continuous improvement, implementing innovative solutions to enhance safety performance.
  • Foster a strong safety culture by actively engaging with field teams to promote awareness and proactive hazard management in exploration operations.

What You’ll have?

  • Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (WHS).
  • ISO 45001 Lead Auditor or equivalent certification.
  • First Aid Certification (e.g., HLTAID011 Provide First Aid or HLTAID014 Advanced First Aid for remote settings).
  • White Card (General Construction Induction Training) – mandatory for exploration sites.
  • ICAM Facilitator Training (or equivalent incident investigation methodology).
  • Occupational Hygiene certification (desirable, e.g., dust and noise exposure monitoring).
  • Strong understanding of Australian Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation
  • In-depth knowledge of HSE management systems, including ISO 45001 standards.
  • Familiarity with mining and mineral exploration practices, particularly in remote and challenging
    environments.
  • Proven ability to conduct risk assessments, develop control measures, and implement safety management
    plans.
  • Competence in incident investigation techniques (e.g., ICAM, 5 Whys) and root cause analysis.
  • Proficiency in occupational hygiene monitoring, including dust, noise, and other environmental exposures.
  • Experience in mentoring cross-functional teams and collaborating with senior leadership to drive safety
    initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success in stakeholder engagement, including collaboration with regulators and contractors.
  • Proven ability to lead safety initiatives, foster a proactive safety culture, and mentor team members.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience delivering training, toolbox talks, and HSE
    presentations.
  • Ability to analyse safety data, identify trends, and implement continuous improvement strategies.
  • Capable of managing complex safety challenges in dynamic, high-risk environments.
  • Proficiency with safety management software and tools (e.g., incident reporting systems, risk management
    databases).
  • Competent in Microsoft Office Suite for reporting, presentations, and data analysis.
