About the Role

The Manager Workplace Injury Management is responsible for overseeing the management and administration of WHS cases (injury and fit for work processes) from initial reporting through to resolution, including follow-up on corrective actions. In this role you will be responsible for managing a complex caseload to achieve satisfactory outcomes for both the employee and Communities at Work. This may include the appointment of rehabilitation providers, consulting with medical professionals and liaising with the insurer.

The Manager Workplace Injury Management works closely with the Senior Manager Risk Governance & Compliance & the Manager Safety & Wellbeing to ensure that both injury case management and preventative measures aspects of Work Health and Safety (WHS) are effectively addressed.

The Manager Workplace Injury Management will be responsible for communicating with employees who report injuries or are affected by them, informing & educating management about injury management cases and their outcomes, and external stakeholders regarding Workers’ Compensation.

Your duties will include but are not limited to:

Injury Management

  • Manage the end-to-end process of workplace injury claims, from notification to case closure.
  • Manage the end-to-end process of fit for work notification to case closure.
  • Coordinate early intervention strategies to facilitate employee recovery and return to work.
  • Develop and implement individual return-to-work plans in collaboration with employees, medical providers, and Managers.
  • Liaise with insurers, medical professionals, and rehabilitation providers to ensure appropriate support and treatment for injured employees.

Collaboration:

  • Work with the various areas of the organisation to identify opportunities for improvement in WHS practices and implement best practices across the organization.
  • Work closely with stakeholders on WHS preventative measures.
  • Ensure alignment between case management and policies and procedures.
  • In partnership with the Manager Safety & Wellbeing and Senior Manager Risk Governance and Compliance, act as the SME for injury management to inform the Quality Management System.

Case Management:

  • Act as a key point of contact for injured employees ensuring clear communication and support throughout the rehabilitation process.
  • Create and maintain records relating to injury management as required.
  • Process remittances for workers compensation claims with the insurer.

Stakeholder Liaison:

  • Communicate with employees regarding WHS issues, case progress, and outcomes.
  • Keep management informed about injury management cases and their resolutions.
  • Engage with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and auditors, as required.
  • Liaise with employees, managers, and external agencies regarding Injury Management issues and case outcomes.

General Management

  • Provide reporting on injury trends, case management, and return-to-work outcomes to senior management as required.
  • Educate managers and staff on fit for work and injury management.
  • Create, review and update policies, procedures and guidelines as directed.
  • Other duties as directed.

What We Need from You:

  • helping injured workers to continue to work, or return to work as soon as appropriate following an injury
  • preparing and implementing the return to work plan or personal injury plan for an injured worker with an insurer
  • identifying suitable duties for injured workers
  • speaking with people involved in the delivery of medical treatment or rehabilitation services to an injured worker
  • monitoring an injured worker's progress towards the worker's return to work
  • to take steps to avoid the injury from getting worse or returning when the injured worker comes back to work
  • promoting injury management plans in the workplace.
  • Current drivers licence
  • Two years proven experience in injury management, rehabilitation provider or return to work coordinator role in the ACT and experience in the following:
  • Knowledge of the ACT Workers Compensation scheme
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail to thoroughly document and manage all aspects of the injury management & fit for work process.
  • Problem-Solving skills to Identify issues and develop effective actions.
  • Current ‘Working with Vulnerable People’ registration (ACT)
