Mackay Regional Council is seeking an experienced Environmental Health Officer to join our Health & Regulatory Services team.
About this opportunity:
This role offers a unique opportunity to engage with various council departments and address diverse areas such as Food Premises, High-Risk Personal Appearance Services, Skin Penetration, Mosquito Prevention, Vermin Control, Asbestos Management, General Health Risk Assessment, Accommodation Standards, Public Swimming Pools, Entertainment Events, and Environmentally Relevant Activities (ERAs).
You will be instrumental in enhancing our environmental health initiatives and making a meaningful impact across multiple domains.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct inspections across different premises to uphold and enhance food hygiene standards, sanitation, and health risk control, while promoting environmental sustainability.
- Issue written and verbal notices and ensure compliance with relevant Acts, Regulations, Local Laws, and Policies concerning environmental health.
- Support and participate in Environmental Health Education Programs to increase community awareness and knowledge.
- Investigate environmental complaints related to air, noise, water, waste emissions, contamination (pollution), litter, illegal dumping, and issues concerning Environmentally Relevant Activities (ERAs).
Applicants must be available for on-call duties.
Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
- Bachelor of Health Science (Environmental Health) or equivalent qualification recognised for membership with Environmental Health Australia Membership Details.
- QLD 'C' Class driver's licence.
- Demonstrable experience as an Environmental Health Officer in a local government setting.
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant environmental health legislation, regulations, and codes of practice.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify and mitigate environmental health risks.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with stakeholders and the community.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, managing multiple priorities and adhering to deadlines.
- Blue Card - It is an essential requirement for this position to hold a Paid Working with Children Blue Card. Under Queensland legislation, you must hold the Blue Card prior to commencing employment - No Card, No Start policy.
