Job Title: Community Engagement Coordinator

Reporting to: Rainbow Families Australia Executive Officer

Hours of work: Part-time position, 15 hours per week (2 days, or distributed hours across the week). Monthly weekend work required.

Salary: $47 per hour, plus 11.5% super.

Location

Hybrid role: Either remote work (work-from-home) or potentially an in-person arrangement at a third-party office. There is also in-person attendance and travel required for events and group activities at various locations within the ACT.

Position Overview

The Community Engagement Coordinator is a new position responsible for the planning, coordination, and delivery of events and programs that support LGBTQ+ families in the ACT. This will include:

Delivering Seahorse Playgroup

  • Planning and leading 2 - 3 playgroup activities per month for LGBTQ+ parents, carers, and their children.
  • Organising an annual larger scale Family Pride Event.
  • Collaborating with the Seahorse Playgroup volunteer committee, including organising an annual planning day.
  • Building relationships and trust with LGBTQ+ families who attend and fostering positive group culture.
  • Engaging with the Seahorse Playgroup community through the message board, providing support, sharing updates from Rainbow Families, and sending event reminders.
  • Welcoming and onboarding new families and responding to inquiries.
  • Identifying and escalating risk to Rainbow Families' Executive Officer.
  • Working with Rainbow Families' Communications to create engaging promotional content for social media, the website, and reports.
  • Managing a small budget to support playgroup activities.
  • Tracking attendance and impact throughout the year.

Network and relationship management

  • Establishing and maintaining connections with LGTBQ+ community groups, cultural events, and organisations in the ACT.
  • Establishing and maintaining connections with perinatal supports and services, Assistive Reproductive Technologies industries, and the Out of Home Care system.
  • Feilding communication from media or government with the support of Rainbow Families.
  • Representing Rainbow Families at relevant cultural events, festivals, forums and networks.

Organisational participation

  • Take part in Rainbow Families team meetings, PD, supervision and collaboration.
  • Participating in and adding to a positive work culture.
  • Assisting Rainbow Families Parenting Program with ACT based personnel recruitment, venue hire and promotion.
  • Other duties as required.

Key Selection Criteria

  1. Connection to LGBTQ+ communities: Understanding of the unique experiences of LGBTQ+ families.
  2. Social and emotional skills: Able to help parents, carers, and young people feel valued and supported.
  3. Organisational skills: Skilled in big-picture planning while managing dynamic and changeable daily communication, events, and operations.
  4. Teamwork and independence: Able to work collaboratively while also self-directing tasks and workload.
  5. Volunteer management: Capable of collaborating with volunteers and ensuring they feel recognised and appreciated.
  6. Networking and relationship-building: Confident in connecting with community groups, organisations, and stakeholders to build service awareness.
  7. Digital literacy: Confident using online communication tools, social media, and data tracking systems
  8. Current Working With Vulnerable People Card.
  9. Personal vehicle and a valid driver’s licence.
