Applications are invited for a level 1 or 2 Occupational Therapist in the Child and Health Services team at Royal Far West, depending on your level of skills and experience. Preferring full-time applicants however will consider part-time applicants.
About the role:
This position is responsible for the provision of occupational therapy services to the children and families living in rural and remote NSW. You can make a real difference in providing healthcare services to country kids. The day to day the role entails seeing NDIS clients via telehealth as well as completing diagnostic assessment as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
You will be part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team of professionals, working with children with additional needs, including clinical psychologists, occupational therapists, paediatricians, psychiatrists, social workers, nurses and recreation activity officers. This is whilst also being a member of a supportive community of more than 30 occupational therapists. In addition, you will have access to individual and group supervision, professional development opportunities, with a range of supported career development pathways and opportunities in clinical, leadership, supervision, education and research.
Royal Far West supports flexible working arrangements. While the role requires face-to-face service at the Centre for Country Kids, telecare therapy can be delivered onsite or from home with laptops and monitors provided, creating a hybrid working model.

As our newest recruit, you will have:
Essential Criteria
• Tertiary qualification in Occupational Therapy, current membership or eligibility for AHPRA Registration
• Demonstrated understanding of the core components of paediatric Occupational Therapy i.e. regulation, sensory processing, motor skills, self-care skills, play and social skills. This includes the ability to plan and deliver Occupational Therapy assessment, intervention, case management and discharge planning of children (0 –12 years) with developmental vulnerability.
• Exhibits effective written and verbal communication skills including report writing, file notes, communicating with children, carers, teachers and colleagues.
• Understanding of family-centred and strengths-based care
• Complies with Mandatory Employment Screening Checks Policy and Workforce Immunisation Policy (will require a NDIS Worker Check).
• Commitment to diverse and inclusive practices. Developing understanding of the issues faced by CALD and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities within the context of health and family wellbeing.
Desirable Criteria
• Experience working with families of children with disabilities and knowledge of the NDIS principles and pathways.
• An understanding and appreciation of the benefits and challenges for children in living in rural and remote areas.
• Experience working with children/adolescents with disability and/or complex developmental, social-emotional, learning and behavioural challenges.
• Awareness of Child Safe practices including, but not limited to, Child Protection legislation, policy and procedures.
