Design Engineer

IDWALA - BUILT FOR SPORT

Objective:

Fountain Marketing & Media is looking for a Design Engineer to effectively lead and manage the iDwala design department within the organisation, focusing primarily on sports facilities and civil engineering projects. This role demands extensive expertise in design management, encompassing client interactions, site inspections, and the coordination of both internal and external design activities.

The Design Engineer will play a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality design services, maintaining client satisfaction, and contributing to the overall success of the company's design initiatives including tender preparation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage and oversee all aspects of design works within the organisation.
• Engage with clients, managing communications, and maintaining strong relationships.
• Conduct site inspections/investigations, client meetings, and presentations.
• Schedule and oversee the programming of all design works.
• Coordinate with subconsultants and subcontractors for design purposes.
• Review all design drawings for accuracy and compliance.
• Prepare design documentation and specifications.
• Writing of reports when required and inline with technical support provided.
• Generate work, actively pursuing prospective clients, including involvement in campaigns targeting schools, architects and sporting clubs.

Other requirements:

• Work cooperatively within a hybrid team environment.
• Assist in the procurement of new projects with quotations and tender submissions that are market leading in terms of presentation and quality of documentation.
• Maintain a high degree of professionalism when dealing with others, including colleagues, clients, external parties and other stakeholders.
• Ability to provide technical support to clients
• Some flexibility in hours as work demands.
• Conduct oneself without prejudice to others on the basis of gender, race, physical ability, religion, or other discriminatory grounds.

Performance Measures:

• Written submissions to be compiled and forwarded/lodged promptly by iDwala’s expectations in terms of accuracy, quality, presentation, professionalism, and timeliness.
• Establishment of a strong working relationship with iDwala’s team, contract partners, agents, clients, and other stakeholders.
• Effective management and delivery of design projects.
• Capacity to support other business and project functions as required.
• Ongoing development as part of the team.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a similar role.
• Qualified and Registered Engineer status - Registered is preferable but not essential.
• Experience in sports facility design is preferred and will be highly advantageous.
• Experience or knowledge of AutoCAD will be highly advantageous.
• A current and valid driver’s licence.

Skills, Proficiencies, and desirable attributes:

• Background within the sports court and civil construction industry is desirable.
• Strong project management abilities; capable of prioritising and handling multiple projects simultaneously.
• Excellent time management skills, the ability to identify priorities, plan and organise one's work to achieve specific and set objectives in the most efficient way possible with the resources available and within set timeframes.
• Highly professional written and verbal communication skills and high attention to detail.
• High competency across the MS Office software suite.
• Ability to work both in a small team environment, remotely and autonomously.
• Strong analytical skills.
• A comprehensive understanding of design requirements for various sporting codes.
• Ability to create a ‘Vision’ for new sports facility designs.

Accountability and Extent of Authority:

• The incumbent is expected to exercise discretion, judgement and decision making within standard practices, training and processes of the company.
• The freedom to act is governed by company policy, objectives and budgets and a regular reporting mechanism will be required to ensure the achievement of goals and objectives.

Inherent Physical Requirements:

• Ability to communicate clearly by telephone, video call and face-to-face.
• Ability to drive a vehicle to travel to site meetings, including areas where access to public transport is difficult or non-existent.
• Ability to undertake repetitive arm movements and manual dexterity for computer work.
• Ability to read computer screens, printed documents, construction plans, and functional project drawings.
• Manual lifting of heavy items may occur at times.
• Manual dexterity for drafting, sketching, and computer-aided design work.

Employment: Full Time - 38 hours (Monday - Friday)

Location: Hybrid / Work From Home Permitted / Project site visits will be required and occasional visits to the Head Office in Gisborne, VIC 3437, may also be required.
