POSITION TITLE: Housing Officer - Full-Time Position (38 hours/week) - 8.30am – 4.36pm Mon - Fri

Pay level– Community services worker Level 4 SCHCDI Award + Salary Sacrificing benefits available. Time Off in Lieu (TOIL) arrangements apply for hours worked outside of nominated hours

DUTIES OF HOUSING OFFICER POSITION

The Housing Officer role involves both in-office and fieldwork responsibilities, including:

  • Providing advocacy, assistance, information, and referrals to other agencies as needed.
  • Maintaining case notes and tenancy plans as appropriate.
  • Handling telephone inquiries, providing information to callers about available services, and taking messages when required.
  • Assisting with front counter inquiries, including Department of Housing matters and form completion.
  • Managing filing systems for all housing programs.
  • Collecting and compiling statistical data for annual, quarterly, and six-monthly reports, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records on clients.
  • Completing administrative tasks as directed by the CEO or Housing Manager.
  • Submitting maintenance requests.
  • Conducting data entry in the Property Management System (Chintaro) and the Document Management System (M-Files).
  • Reviewing rent arrears in Chintaro.
  • Carrying out various types of property inspections, ensuring reports and photographs are completed.
  • Preparing monthly data for the Housing Manager to assist with Management Committee reports.
  • Supporting tenancy planning, including:
  • Facilitating tenant participation activities as required by the Housing team.
  • Conducting tenant surveys and compiling results.
  • Preparing crisis housing units for new tenants, including making beds with appropriate linen and ensuring all kitchen and homewares are sufficient.
  • Understanding the challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness and demonstrating compassion, patience, and understanding in client interactions.
  • Ensuring compliance with Tenancy Agreements and Residential Tenancy Authority regulations.
  • Maintaining accurate records for Community Housing Properties and other housing-related documentation.
  • Liaising with Government Departments and community agencies as necessary.
  • Engaging in professional development, including attending relevant training and meetings as directed by the CEO.
  • Assisting with promotional activities for the organization’s programs when required.
  • Seeking supervision and guidance from the Housing Manager and CEO.
  • Performing on-call duties as required.
  • Carrying out any other duties assigned by the CEO.

SELECTION CRITERIA: Your application must address each of the Key Selection criteria in detail.

ESSENTIAL SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. A current Drivers License – attach copy of drivers licence
  2. Must have current National Police Check
  3. Must be able to obtain a Working with Children Check (Blue Card)

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. Understanding of Residential Tenancy Processes and legislation. Previous experience in Property Management would be an advantage.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised, accept supervision and advice and implement results of discussions. Ability to identify the need for, and implement, new processes where required.
  3. Demonstrated organization and time management skills, with a particular emphasis on multi-tasking in a busy office.
  4. Developed interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to liaise verbally and in writing with businesses, community groups and government departments.
  5. Demonstrated ability in the use of computers and computer software including the use of property management systems.
  6. Demonstrated ability to maintain systematic records as well as having experience in the area of front reception and administration
  7. Have a demonstrated ability to provide services requiring a high degree of judgment, initiative, confidentiality and sensitivity having an ability to assist clients who are emotional and in crisis.
  8. Knowledge and understanding of the operations of a community based organization.
