About the Role
We are seeking a Technical Support Officer (Mechanical/Civil) to provide quality and timely Mechanical/civil engineering support to staff and students within the College of Science and Engineering.
The Civil Technical Support Officer's duties will include but are not limited to:
- Managing and maintaining engineering teaching laboratories, including equipment maintenance and consumables control.
- Developing documentation such as Risk Assessments, Safe Work Procedures, standard test procedures and project documentation.
- Providing advice, training, supervision, recommendations, and feedback to staff and students in the operation of equipment, sample preparation processes, practical engineering design considerations and safety within teaching, research and other College supported activities.
- Carrying out repairs, maintenance and calibration to commercial and in-house constructed laboratory and workshop equipment.
- Designing, developing, constructing, commissioning, and documenting specialised civil & mechanical equipment from general specifications to Australian Standards where relevant.
About You
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Engineering Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will hold a trade qualification in Fitting and Turning or Toolmaking, along with an Advanced Mechanical Engineering Diploma or equivalent qualification. The successful candidate will have experience in maintaining and calibrating engineering teaching and research equipment, as well as a background in workshop management and maintenance. Additionally, they will possess great attention to detail and have strong technical and analytical skills.
The successful candidate will also demonstrate:
- Knowledge of Civil/Mechanical materials and testing methods according to Australian Standards.
- Demonstrated experience of independently developing and maintaining procedures and systems for testing, calibration and project work.
- Experience performing civil engineering tests to the appropriate Australian Standards for concrete, steel, soils and hydrology (highly desirable).
- Experience with NC machining and the use of Autodesk ™, SolidWorks ™, or other industry-based CAD/CAM software (desirable).
