ABOUT ABSEC

AbSec – NSW Child, Family and Community Peak Aboriginal Corporation, is the peak organisation for Aboriginal children, young people and families in NSW. We provide an Aboriginal perspective on child protection and out-of-home care policy to the NSW Government and support Aboriginal-led organisations deliver effective services for Aboriginal children, young people and families. We are a not-for-profit, incorporated community organisation, governed by an all-Aboriginal board.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Are you a skilled storyteller and media professional passionate about driving real change? Do you want to use your expertise in communications to amplify the voices of Aboriginal children, families, and communities?

AbSec is seeking a PR and Communications Coordinator to join our dynamic Communications team and lead our messaging and advocacy efforts. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping public discourse and holding government to account on policies affecting Aboriginal children and families.

Key responsibilities:

  • Shape and deliver impactful advocacy – Craft compelling content, media releases, and campaigns that drive change.
  • Engage with media and government – Build relationships, respond to policy announcements, and position AbSec as a leading voice in Aboriginal child and family welfare.
  • Amplify community stories – Work alongside Aboriginal organisations, community leaders, and sector partners to translate complex issues into powerful narratives.
  • Lead strategic communications – Ensure messaging consistency across social media, publications, and events to strengthen AbSec’s brand and advocacy profile.

Benefits:

  • Full-time 35-hour week based in new Redfern office
  • Salary: SCHADS Level 4 commensurate with skills and experience plus superannuation and not-for-profit salary packaging
