About the Role

The Waste & Resource Management Branch delivers high quality outcomes in the areas of collection, recycling and disposal of solid waste from residential and commercial premises and collection of liquid waste from holding tanks located in un-sewered areas. The branch also provides and manages landfills and resource recovery centres as well as education as part of its “Reduce, Re-Use, Recycle” program.

The Waste Technical Officer Disposals & Projectsoversees the operational aspects of waste management facilities throughout the region including contractor performance, high level project and contract management, development of new techniques and methodology, and provision of expert advice to the team and stakeholders regarding legislation, policy and industry best practice to promote performance and improvement.

As the Waste Technical Officer Disposals & Projects you will:

  • Contract manage the day to day waste diversion and disposal operations (Resource Recovery Centres).
  • Contribute to the planning for waste management facilities and projects through professional knowledge, research, data analysis and trending, ensuring alignment to council’s strategic goals.
  • Carry out high level project management including preparation, implementation, delivery and reporting of allocated projects, contracts and operations.
  • Carry out procedural and technical investigations to identify causes of technical or operational issues, or in response to identified risks; make recommendations for action; develop improved practices, standards and procedures.
  • Maintain a current understanding of relevant legislative requirements and provide accurate and timely advice to project stakeholders and staff regarding legislation, local law, Council policy, strategies and industry best practice

About you

As a professional in Disposals & Projects, you will have a demonstrated experience in waste diversion, recovery and disposal management programs and an up-to-date knowledge of contemporary waste and resource management practices.

You will have demonstrated appreciation of the essentials of contract management and administration on a substantial scale, including legal, risk management and financial management.

You will have the required skills for contract management and administration on a substantial scale, including legal, risk management and financial management; and the ability to develop goals, plans, systems and projects to achieve branch objectives and aspirations.

As a requirement of this role, you will have a Bachelor Degree in Engineering (Civil or Environmental) or equivalent, or a combination of extensive experience, expertise and competence, sufficient to perform all duties of the position at this level.
