About The Role

As the Senior Environmental Officer, you will be responsible for undertaking environmental assessments of detailed and/or complex native vegetation clearing applications, other mining or petroleum proposals as required, providing high level specialist/technical advice to the departments Executive, minerals and energy sector, general public and industry organisations in relation to environmental legislation and policies.

Additionally, you will be required to provide high level specialist/technical advice to the departments Executive, minerals and energy sector, general public and industry organisations applying environmental legislation relating to resources industry, preparing reports, documents and correspondence related to complex environmental assessments and making decisions and recommendations as required. Also, this role is responsible for carrying out the duties of an Inspector and undertaking inspections/audits of mining/petroleum operations to monitor for compliance with clearing permits and other legislative requirements and mentoring less experienced staff as required.

The Role:

  • Undertake assessments of complex native vegetation clearing applications and, as required other mining/petroleum proposals.
  • Provide high level specialist/technical advice to the departments Executive, minerals and energy sector, general public and industry organisations applying environmental legislation relating to resources industry.
  • Prepare reports, documents and correspondence related to complex environmental assessments and make decisions and/or recommendations as required.
  • Carry out the duties of an Inspector and undertake inspections/audits of mining/petroleum operations to monitor for compliance with clearing permits and other legislative requirements.
  • Undertake and/or manage incident and compliance investigations.
  • Mentor and coach less experienced staff members as required.
  • Prepare technical advice and assist in drafting guidance material for industry and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in divisional training programs relevant to the position.
  • Prepare responses to ministerial and parliamentary questions.
  • Participate in internal audits of QMS business processes for the Division and prepare audit reports as required.
  • Assist in operational projects as directed by the General Manager or Team Leader.

Essential requirements for this role:

  • The holder of this position exercises delegated statutory powers
  • High integrity required for conflicts of interest
  • Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check
  • Medical Check
  • Current Western Australian C or C-A class drivers licence or equivalent
