At Sydney Health & Care Services (SHCS), we are dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities and young people in care through high-quality Supported Independent Living (SIL) and residential care services. Our mission is to create a supportive and inclusive environment where our clients can thrive with dignity and independence.

We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Residential Care Workers to join our team. If you are resilient, adaptable, and committed to person-centered care, we want to hear from you!

About the Role

As a Residential Care Worker, you will provide essential support to individuals with diverse needs, including young people in care and clients with complex conditions and behaviors. This casual role, based in Wollongong, NSW, requires flexibility, with some shifts including up to five sleepovers per week and support for multiple clients.

This role starts as casual, with the opportunity for a part-time contract after six weeks. At SHCS, part-time Residential Care Workers are the foundation of our SIL workforce, benefiting from guaranteed hours, paid training, shift preference, and growth opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, person-centered care in a Supported Independent Living and residential care setting.
  • Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation, and household tasks.
  • Implement individualized care and support plans tailored to client needs and preferences.
  • Support clients with complex behaviors, including verbal and physical aggression, self-injurious behaviors, autism, and acquired brain injuries (ABI).
  • Provide PEG feeding support and perform safe manual handling tasks.
  • Engage older and young people in recreational, educational, and social activities that promote development and well-being.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting on client progress and any incidents.
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals, including social workers and counselors, to achieve the best outcomes for clients.
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and ongoing professional development.

Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking candidates who are adaptable, resilient, and comfortable in dynamic environments.

Some roles require:

Female hires: Availability for sleepovers and have experience with complex behaviors. Signing experience is a plus.

Male hires: Must be robust, great communication skills, and able to work in environments where strong language may be used. PEG-fed training required, and availability for sleepovers a huge advantage.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability, Aged Care, Youth Work, or equivalent) an advantage.
  • Experience supporting clients with complex behaviors and high-support needs.
  • Knowledge and practical experience in manual handling and epilepsy management.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage with clients and families.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including up to five sleepover shifts per week.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • NDIS Worker Check (NDISWC) and Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain).
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transport.
  • Bonus: Social Work, Psychology, or Nursing students are encouraged to apply!

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience in a Supported Independent Living (SIL) environment.
  • Previous experience supporting clients with ABI and complex behaviors.
  • Additional relevant training or qualifications in disability support or youth work.

What We Offer

  • Competitive hourly rates, including penalty rates and public holiday pay.
  • A supportive and inclusive team that values your growth and contributions.
  • Ongoing paid training and professional development to enhance your skills.
  • Flexible working arrangements to suit your lifestyle.
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals with disabilities and young people in care.
  • Part-time contracts available after the initial six-week period.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for additional support and well-being.
