The role

We are looking for an energetic and motivated Café Supervisor to join our team and oversee the daily operations of our cosy coffee nook, The Kiosk, located at Griffith University Village (GUV). As the supervisor, you will lead by example, ensuring smooth service, maintaining high standards, and growing our customer base. This is a hands-on role that has potential to build a team and expand as part of the exciting building developments happening at GUV.

The position attracts a salary of between $50,392 - $52,330 plus 11.5% superannuation and this is a 12-month fixed term part-time role (32.5 hours per week).

The organisation

The Griffith University Gold Coast (GUGC) Student Guild is an independent not-for-profit student association servicing all students enrolled at the Griffith University Gold Coast campus. The Guild works closely with Griffith University and other key stakeholders to support the diverse community of approximately 17,000 students.

The Guild has three divisions: Student Services, Business Services, and Commercial Services led by the General Manager reporting to a Board of elected student representatives. Under the direction of the Board, the Guild’s purpose is to support students and enhance student life. Our vision is to create a thriving community where all students feel supported and empowered for their future.

This position sits within Commercial Services which support students to thrive on campus, provides convenient services to the University and surrounding community, and supports the financial sustainability of the Guild. Commercial Services include the Uni Bar, Functions & Catering, The Uni Store, Uni Fitness, Australia Post, The Kiosk café, and a range of food and retail tenancies.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervise daily café operations, including opening and closing procedures.
  • Lead, train, and motivate a team of baristas.
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent service and attention to detail.
  • Manage stock levels, ordering supplies, and minimizing wastage.
  • Assist with scheduling and managing staff rosters to ensure efficient coverage.
  • Maintain cleanliness, safety, and hygiene standards throughout the café.
  • Handle customer inquiries, feedback, and complaints professionally.
  • Support the Head of Operations in achieving sales targets and improving profitability.

Selection criteria:

  • Previous experience in a supervisory role within a café or hospitality environment.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Passionate about coffee, food, and providing outstanding customer service.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Organised and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic understanding of financial management, including cash handling and reporting.
