About NAAJA
The North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency is a leading not-for-profit organisation that provides legal services and advocacy to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Northern Territory. NAAJA’s legal practice provides high quality, culturally proficient and accessible advice, casework and court advocacy in both criminal and civil law.
NAAJA Throughcare is a suite of trauma-informed throughcare programs for justice-affected Aboriginal people across the Northern Territory. There are throughcare programs for adults, youth and women tailored to their different journeys reintegrating with family, kin and community. These all contribute to Closing the Gap Outcomes 10 and 11 to reduce the overrepresentation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the criminal justice system.
The Indigenous Adult Prisoner Throughcare program (the Program) is a voluntary holistic journey of intensive case work and participant support for Indigenous adults whilst incarcerated in prison and as they transition back into the community. The target cohort of program participants have high and complex needs, and many are at risk of reoffending.
