The Role

Security and Estate Group is looking to fill a range of positions in the following areas:

Estate Property Officer (Estate Commercial Planning Branch)

These roles in Estate property disposal work are accountable under broad direction to perform and achieve complex planning, development, approval and delivery activities and tasks for estate disposal. It is also responsible for ensuring that the estate disposal are successfully delivered within the required quality, schedule, and cost/budget.

The incumbent will have an in-depth knowledge of or be able to absorb an in-depth knowledge of, and compliance with, property management functions, legislative frameworks, Government decision-making framework and Defence’s strategic objectives/plans. They will also exercise sound decision-making and judgement to provide expert policy advice.

These positions require a Baseline Security Clearance and are located in Canberra - ACT.

Estate Property Officer (Property Management Branch)

These exciting and fast-paced roles in the Directorate of Estate Licensing and Leasing delivers a range of property related outcomes in accordance with relevant legislation, policy and procedures.

Duties include stakeholder engagement, managing contractors and consultants, providing advice on real property management in the Defence environment, drafting policy and procedures associated with Defence property matters and resolving real property issues using expertise, identifying alternative courses of action.

These positions require an NV 1 Security Clearance and can be located in Canberra - ACT, Darwin - NT, Brisbane - QLD, Sydney - NSW, Melbourne - VIC, Adelaide - SA and Perth - WA.

Security Advisor (Directorate of Security Assurance (DoSA))

The Security Advisor will play a crucial role in the provision of protective security advice, security outreach, risk management, and implementing effective strategies to safeguard our people, assets and information.

This position requires an NV 1 Security Clearance and is located in Darwin - NT.

Service Manager (Defence Industry Security Branch (DISB))

The Service Manager provides governance and oversight of the Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) Membership System (DMS) in accordance with IT Service Management (ITSM) methodology and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework.

The DMS provides an online self-service portal for new and existing DISP members and a Customer Relationship System to support back-office processing and automation.

This position requires an NV 1 Security Clearance and is located in Campbell Park - ACT.

Governance Officer (Defence Industry Security Branch (DISB))

This role provides a Branch coordination function, contributing to strategic planning, program and project management and policy development within DISB.

About our Team

SEG is responsible for providing infrastructure and associated support services to in excess of 90,000 ADF and civilian staff. SEG sustains the Defence Estate and is the consolidated security and service delivery organisation for Defence.

We design and deliver Defence infrastructure and manage the complex Defence Estate – maintaining environmental stewardship of over 3.8 million hectares, the largest landholding in the Commonwealth with 70 major bases, 100 plus training ranges, more than 1000 leased or owned properties, and 30,000 built assets.

The SEG comprises four divisions (Infrastructure, Service Delivery, Security and Estate Transformation) that strengthen the links between security and the Defence Estate, and support Defence’s mission and the integrated, focused force outlined in the 2024 National Defence Strategy.

Our vacancies exist in the following areas:

Defence Security Division

The Defence Security Division provides adaptable security services to Defence and Defence industry, and provides timely, considered guidance to all Defence employees. The division comprises of four branches (Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA), Defence Industry Security, Security Policy & Services, and Security Threat & Assurance).

Estate Transformation Division

Estate Transformation Division supports Defence wide integration and collaboration to strengthen the resilience of the Defence Estate. We drive process reform and Defence Estate optimisation, while providing a principle-coordinating role for engagement with central agencies on estate management policy, and the implementation of Government direction and strategic intent. We also manage property acquisitions, leasing, disposal and management of estate related native title.

NOTE: Although current SEG vacancies exist within the Defence Security and Estate Transformation Divisions, this recruitment process may be used to identify other suitable candidates to fill vacancies for similar roles across the Group.

To be successful in these roles, you will possess a range of the following skills and experience:

  • Adapting to changing priorities, managing competing demands, and navigating through evolving requirements and regulations working in a fast-paced environment.
  • A demonstrated ability to work proficiently in both independent work and collaborative team environments while leading, mentoring, and/or guiding team members fostering a positive work culture.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and have a considerable level of stakeholder engagement to liaise with stakeholders in relation to complex or difficult issues.
  • Skilled in researching, thinking critically, collecting and analysing information for informed decision-making.
  • Highly motivated, solution focused, organised, with a desire to achieve quality outcomes.
  • Capable of translating complex concepts into clear, actionable policies and able to produce high-quality policy documents, complex reports, and briefings.

In addition to the above the following roles also require:

Security Advisor

  • Experience in conducting security risk assessments and developing risk management strategies, or a willingness to learn and develop expertise in this area.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex security data and trends.
  • A passion for conducting security awareness and education programs to employees as part of DoSA’s commitment to promote and foster a strong sense of security culture and awareness amongst Defence and its stakeholders.
