The Opportunity
As a Stores Officer you will be responsible for providing efficient and effective purchasing and warehousing support to Council's departments. The Stores Officer supports the Finance and Procurement Services team by maintaining positive supplier relationships, responding to customer enquiries, and ensuring accurate record-keeping. This position plays a key role in maintaining optimal stock levels, improving work practices, and contributing to operational and performance reporting on stock management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform operational, administrative, and customer service functions for the store;
  • Maintain adequate stock levels, conduct stocktakes and ensure accurate inventory records;
  • Assist with procurement, supplier management, and compliance with Council policies and procedures;
  • Oversee the receipt, inspection, and dispatch of goods while ensuring stock integrity;
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organised storage environment in line with WHS standards;
  • Monitor stock performance and recommend actions for slow-moving or obsolete inventory;
  • Provide advice and support to stakeholders on stock-related matters; and
  • Ensure the accuracy of Council’s electronic procurement systems and assist with reporting as required.

Our Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a proactive and organised individual with strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining efficient store operations. Transitional skills and experience in store operations, procurement, and/or inventory management is preferred. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, the ability to manage stock effectively, and a strong focus on workplace health and safety. Proficiency in inventory systems, adherence to policies and procedures and a current forklift licence are required for this role. Key Selection Criteria

  • Current High Risk Work Licence – Forklift with demonstrated experience operating a Forklift in a work environment (Mandatory);
  • Certificate III in Warehousing or similar qualification (Highly desirable);
  • Demonstrated experience working in a store or similar environment (Highly desirable);
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact positively with customers and stakeholders;
  • Strong computer literacy skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to quickly acquire knowledge and navigate software systems specific to Council’s procurement processes;
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and with limited supervision; and
  • Current Queensland ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence (minimum P1) or ability to obtain within the first six (6) months.

General Salary Information
Level 2 Year 1 $68,134 per annum plus superannuation.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Applicants must be able to safely and competently carry out strenuous labouring and manual handling activities. The position will require the employee to carry out physical tasks which may include manual handling, repetitive bending, kneeling, twisting and/or squatting, lifting, working in confined spaces, and working at heights.
