• Leading a security-first approach in cross-functional teams, collaborating with tech leads before builds and reviewing the security of implementations afterward;
• Managing vendor relationships related to security and risk systems;
• Working with technical teams to improve security practices and address vulnerabilities;
• Setting the strategic direction for security architecture and ensuring the safe deployment of cloud-based solutions;
• Proactively contributing to continuous improvement efforts to enhance security and reduce risks within engineering and delivery processes;
• Providing expertise in designing and implementing secure cloud solutions using appropriate technologies;
• Ensuring the reliability of applications through appropriate security monitoring and measures;
• Developing and regularly updating a security roadmap/strategy for the organisation, engaging with tech leads and product managers for alignment; and
• Mentoring junior security analysts within the team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead Technically: Guide the team in making sound technical decisions, ensuring governance and adherence to security standards;
• Agile Practices: Support and integrate Agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum, SAFE) into the team’s work processes;
• Architecture Ownership: Own and oversee the design of security solutions, ensuring they are scalable, maintainable, and meet business objectives;
• Collaborate on Product Vision: Work closely with Product Managers to transform product goals into actionable technical security requirements;
• Security Oversight: Monitor security threats and ensure the organisation has the necessary systems in place for proactive security management;
• Vendor Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong working relationships with key vendors and ensure alignment on security priorities; and
• Enterprise Collaboration: Collaborate with tech leads to ensure the product and technology roadmap align with the broader enterprise vision.

Required Skills and Experience

• Expertise in multiple programming languages, with the ability to write clean, efficient code and quickly adapt to new technologies;
• Solid understanding of microservices architecture and RESTful APIs;
• Familiarity with relational databases such as MySQL, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and Oracle;
• Experience with containerisation tools, such as Docker;
• Strong knowledge of cloud infrastructure and services, particularly AWS (ECS, EKS, EC2, S3, Lambda) and security services (IAM, KMS, CloudTrail, etc.);
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform;
• Familiarity with CI/CD processes and security tools (static scanning, dynamic scanning, software composition analysis);
• Experience with vulnerability management, endpoint detection, and event management tools;
• Proven ability to manage security incidents, lead troubleshooting efforts, and implement preventative measures;
• Demonstrated success in coaching and developing team members; and
• Experience designing cloud security solutions, API gateways, and scalable mobile or enterprise applications.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience in the finance or banking sector is highly desirable;
• Relevant qualifications in software development or cybersecurity (tertiary or vocational); and
• Security certifications such as CISSP, SANS, or similar.

Experience

• 8+ years in software development or cloud infrastructure roles; and
• In-depth experience in application and cloud security.
