About the Role
This role is residential and based in Aurukun.
Reporting to the Electrical Supervisor and / or Building Services Manager, the Electrician will provide maintenance services to Council facilities, homes and State owned infrastructure within the Aurukun community whilst working with and mentoring other employees within the Technical Services department as well as contractors.
Key Accountabilities
- Efficient and timely completion of tasks taking into consideration cultural aspects and agreement with other trades, employees of the Building, Construction and Maintenance team, and building contractors.
- Undertaking work to meet the needs of the Aurukun community
- Plan works and order materials in advance to ensure works are not delayed.
- Completing and submitting all relevant paperwork in accordance with Council and BAS systems, eg: daily job cards, store requests, timesheets.
- Undertaking work in a safe manner compliant with relevant legislation including reporting hazards within the workplace.
- Participating in pre-start, toolbox, staff meetings, health and safety meetings and other meetings as directed
- Assists with the training and mentoring of local staff where required.
Qualifications, Skills and Attributes
- Certificate III in Electrotechnology (minimum)
- A knowledge of or ability to obtain a knowledge of all legal requirements in regard to Electrical work, including but not limited to Australian standards, WHS standards and Building codes
- Open unrestricted Car (Manual) drivers’ licence
- A minimum of 5 years demonstrated post trade experience (experience working in a remote and / or Aboriginal community is desirable)
- Experience with SCADA, including using it as a fault-finding tool, minor programming and configurating experience. (desirable)
- Experience with CCTV, including replacing hardware and programming (desirable)
- QTP and QBP qualifications (desirable)
- Cert II in split AC installations (desirable)
- Experience undertaking a high level of maintenance within domestic and / or commercial environments
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to negotiate, conflict manage and diffuse volatile situations
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve positive outcomes
- Experience or the ability to obtain an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, with the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Indigenous people, a knowledge of Aboriginal culture and customs would be an advantage
- Capacity to demonstrate a high level of commitment to interact positively in a remote Aboriginal community.
