Behaviour Support Practitioner

Dot Humanity is an Australian-based Proprietary Limited Company established in 2020, that provides support to people with disability who have an NDIS Plan.

We are a registered NDIS provider which means we work with people with disabilities under NDIA’s legislation and regulation, WA State Government, and NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.

About this role:

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner to join our growing company in Osborne Park, WA. The role is available immediately, however a registration process with the NDIS Quality and Safeguard Commission is required.

Under the NDIS Commission, Positive Behaviour Support focuses on person-centred interventions to address the underlying causes of behaviours of concern or challenging behaviours, while safeguarding the dignity and quality of life of people with disability who require specialist behaviour support.

The NDIS Commission assesses behaviour support practitioners and providers using a Positive Behaviour Support Capability Framework. This provides guiding principles to assist in delivering specialist positive behaviour support as an NDIS behaviour support practitioner. There are four levels of behaviour support practitioners within the PBS Capability Framework. These levels articulate the capabilities of a core practitioner through to recognising the expertise of highly experienced and specialist practitioners:

  • Level 1: Core
  • Level 2: Proficient
  • Level 3: Advanced
  • Level 4: Specialist

We are seeking a Proficient practitioner or above. A Proficient practitioner is expected to recall, understand and apply concepts relating to disability and PBS in general circumstances.

As a Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner, you will:

  • Review all available documentation and meet with participants and/or family and carers, support persons and existing providers and/or services to develop an NDIS Positive Behaviour Support plan;
  • Connect with participant’s, their nominees and carers, service providers, support coordinators and other nominated people as required for plan development and implementation of Positive Behaviour Support plans;
  • Develop high-quality NDIS PBS plans that consider skills development, community and mainstream supports and roots of challenging and concerning behaviours;
  • Liaising with Support Coordinators to ensure the participants’ NDIS PBS plan are implemented and monitored as agreed;
  • Attend planning meetings and provide advocacy support to people with disability;
  • Work collaboratively with participants, their nominees, service providers, community and mainstream support to ensure improved quality of life outcomes for NDIS participant;
  • Work collaboratively with fellow team members including sharing and developing specialised knowledge in areas of expertise;
  • Monitor and managing your case-load ensuring plans and plan development and implementation monitoring activities are up to date;
  • Contribute to quality improvement that enhances service delivery practice, processes and systems that contribute to improved service quality for NDIS participants;
  • Undertaken Functional Behaviour Assessments using different assessment tools;
  • Provide therapeutic supports to people with disability and their family and support teams based on their NDIS PBS plan and funding;
  • Ensuring high-quality record keeping, including competency with IT systems.
  • Understand and Implement a range of therapy and assessment tools to assess and provide therapy and psychotherapy services to people with disability; and
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities, as directed by the Manager or delegate.

About you:

  • Have a university degree in one of the following disciplines: Psychology, Counselling, Social Work, Behavioural Science, Occupational Therapy, other relevant allied health field.
  • A passion for mental health and clinical knowledge on psychosocial disabilities (specifically Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Complex PTSD).
  • Knowledge on NDIS supports and disability.
  • Effective communication skills including: The ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and respectfully with consumers, families, colleagues, other agency personnel and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge on the biopsychosocial model.
  • Strong written communication to deliver effective plans and reporting in an NDIS environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organise and manage daily tasks.
  • Demonstrated computer skills, with experience in Microsoft Office applications
  • Satisfactory completion of safety screening including a National Police check, International Police check (if required), a current WA Working with Children Check and complete the worker screen requirement.
  • Provide First Aid Certificate.

Preferred:

  • Awareness of relevant Government Departments and community-based agencies that may support PBS and Therapy such as NDIA, NDIS Safeguard Commission and Department Health.
  • Proven flexibility, adaptability and ability to respond and adjust quickly to change in work demands.
  • Experience supporting people with disabilities preferred.
  • Experience with assessment tools such as PediCat, Whodas, DSM5, etc. preferred
  • Knowledge of appropriate legislation and standards, for example, Mental Health Care Act, National Disability Insurance Scheme Act, preferred.

Terms and Conditions of Employment: This position is full time 37.5 hours per week – Contract – There is a possibility of full-time permanent within the next 12 months.

Classification: DHPSA5.3/4 – Health Professionals and Support Services Award – Range between $87,500
to $92,250 per annum

Superannuation – 11.5 % of the cash salary
