Aboriginal Coronial Information Support Officer
- 1 x Ongoing - Full-Time role available
- This role is based in Lidcombe Coroner's Court
- Clerk Grade 5/6, Salary ($97,024 - $107,059 pa), plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading
This position is open to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants only.
Your role
The Aboriginal Services Unit (ASU) is a specialist team within the Department of Communities & Justice that delivers services and programs to Aboriginal court users. We also lead work on Closing the Gap, and influence other areas of the department to in projects and policy development through our informed and expert knowledge of Aboriginal people experiencing the NSW justice system as victims and offenders.
What you'll do
The Aboriginal Coronial Information and Support Officer is responsible for working in partnership with the Coordinator and other staff of the Coronial Information and Support Program (CISP) to, provide information and support to improve the experiences of Aboriginal clients and families affected by deaths reported to the Coroner in New South Wales. The role provides culturally safe and sensitive support to Aboriginal people and families to successfully navigate the coronial process and requires the occupant to travel across NSW to provide practice supports to Aboriginal people and families during coronial inquests.
Essential requirements
- Aboriginality - typically all or the majority of the work of an Aboriginal identified role will involve the development and delivery of policy, programs and services which impact on Aboriginal people and or involve liaising directly with Aboriginal people and communities.
- A current driver's licence (unrestricted) and willingness to travel to regional areas is required.

There are two alternatives to confirming your Aboriginality, one of which must be uploaded to be considered for the role as follows. Either will be accepted:
Confirmation of Aboriginality form
or
Written confirmation from 2-3 Aboriginal organisations within the community in which you live/work, which addresses the three criteria listed below:
- is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and
- identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and
- is accepted as a such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community
What we're looking for
In addition to meeting the essential requirements, the successful candidate must demonstrate strong capabilities in:
- Demonstrated ability to engage and support Aboriginal people and their families in challenging circumstances
- Experience advocating for clients' needs and providing practical supports
- Be willing to work collaboratively with internal and external service providers to deliver improved experiences for Aboriginal people and families
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Manage integrity of client information and files so that information is relevant, accurate and secure.
- A degree in social work will be favourable but not mandatory
