We are a family-operated turf farm nestled in the Scenic Rim. We're on the lookout for a self-motivated Turf Farm Hand and Operator to play a pivotal role in growing, maintaining and harvesting top-notch turf for our customers.
About the Role
As we’re a small team, we’re looking for someone who’s confident in operating in all areas of turf cultivation, maintenance and harvesting. No two days will be the same. The right candidate must be flexible, particularly during peak seasons, and be happy to work up to 50 hours per week during those times. Generally, work hours are Monday to Friday, however hours may vary day to day based on demand and weather conditions. Flexibility is crucial, and the ability to adapt to the dynamic nature of daily operations is necessary. Salary will reflect this.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in all aspects of turf cultivation, including planting, watering, fertilizing, and pest control.
- Follow the daily harvest plan to efficiently harvest customer orders with the correct variety, quantity, quality, and weights.
- Maintain awareness of different turf variety requirements, paddock conditions, and obstacles during the harvesting process.
- Ensure the cleanliness of machinery between block changes to prevent cross-contamination.
- Safely operate machinery, including tractor driving and mowing, adhering to all safety protocols.
- Monitor and manage irrigation systems to ensure optimal turf health.
- Conduct regular inspections to identify and address any issues related to turf quality.
Desired Skills
- Previous agriculture industry in Australia is a must. Previous experience as a farm hand is required, bonus points for turf farm experience.
- Ability to operate and maintain farm machinery, and experience using a Firefly Harvester is extremely beneficial.
- Knowledge of chemicals and spraying turf for optimal growth and quality would be beneficial.
- Physical fitness and the ability to perform tasks that may involve lifting and manual labour.
- Strong work ethic, ability to work unguided using own initiative, and a willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Possess and maintain a current driver's license.
- A forklift license is advantageous but not essential.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality turf products.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
