About the Role
This 2-year opportunity, is a pivotal role within the Urban Planning and Development Team, reporting to Urban and Regional Strategic Planning Manager. As the Principal Planner you will be responsible for leading for leading and coordinating the implementation of Melbourne Water’s flood modelling into Council planning schemes. The position is also accountable for engagement with key stakeholders including community, Council, Government, and the development industry leading into and during the Planning Scheme Amendment processes.
- Undertake and autonomously lead and/or project manage technical aspects of Planning Scheme Amendment implementation.
- Manage relationships as the key contact for specific Planning Scheme Amendments to DTP, Planning Panels Victoria, and Councils.
- Coordinate flood implementation Planning Scheme Amendments within the team and provide an active role in in project planning, oversight, and occasional financial management.
- Responsibility for oversight, review, and quality control for complex planning related decisions. Provide mentoring, coaching, training, and/or support to team members and assist other Melbourne Water teams as required.

About you:
- Extensive and demonstrated experience in relevant technical area of urban planning and project management
- Extensive experience in community engagement and consultation
- Extensive demonstrated Planning Scheme Amendment experience
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Urban Planning or equivalent
- Prior experience with Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) hearings, Planning Panel hearings, Standing Advisory Committee or Ministerial Advisory Committee hearings.
- A Driver's licence is required for this position.
