BHAC is a progressive Aboriginal organisation dedicated to representing and supporting approximately 4,000 Aboriginal people across 32 homelands in West Arnhem Land.

About the Opportunity
Bawinanga Homelands Aboriginal Corporation (BHAC) is looking for a full-time Finance Manager (FM) to join our senior management team. The role is based in Darwin, NT.
As Finance Manager, you will play a critical role in strengthening financial governance, overseeing grant compliance, and driving commercial sustainability while supporting BHAC’s operational and community service functions. Your leadership will ensure the long-term financial health of the organisation while fostering a strong and engaged finance team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with grant management and acquittal processes
- Managing multi-stream financial reporting across commercial and grant-funded operations, overseeing cash flow, P&L statements, balance sheets, and depreciation schedules
- Oversee and ensure compliance with financial governance frameworks, internal controls, and risk mitigation strategies to safeguard financial sustainability
- Ensure statutory obligations are met and kept up to date
- Present financial reports and insights to the Board and executive team, simplifying complex financial data for non-financial stakeholders
- Lead and developing the finance team, ensuring capability, efficiency, and alignment with BHAC’s strategic goals
- Support business planning, financial modelling, and revenue diversification, contributing to the sustainability and growth of BHAC’s operations
- Ensure software programs are fully and efficiently utilised across each business unit
- Oversee continuous process improvement, including documentation of financial procedures and policies
- Liaise with the external auditors to ensure a smooth and timely end of year process
About You
To qualify, you will need a CPA or CA qualification and ideally 3–5 years of experience as a Finance Manager or in a senior financial leadership role within a complex, multi-revenue stream organisation. Strong expertise in financial strategy, governance, and compliance will also be essential.
Desirable Background – What Will Set You Apart
- Experience managing grant funding and acquittal processes, particularly with Commonwealth and NT Government grants
- Strong knowledge of multi-stream financial reporting, including both commercial and grant-funded operations
- Proficiency in financial systems, particularly Xero and supplementary financial reporting tools
- A track record of leading financial compliance, audits, and risk management frameworks in a not-for-profit or community service setting
- Previous experience working in organisations with internal charging and/or cross-subsidisation arrangements
- Previous experience working in remote or Indigenous community financial management
- Experience working in community development, not-for-profit, or government-funded organisations
