Apunipima Cape York Health Council is a community controlled Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health service, which provides culturally appropriate, family centred, primary health care services to the communities and people of Cape York.
About the role
The position, as a member of the Men’s Support Program, is to deliver holistic, integrated clinical services that responds to the needs of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander males, addressing both the physical and mental health needs of the men and supporting the broader social determinants of health for their families. The Position is full time and permanent.
There is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be male to ensure cultural protocols and customs are being met.
About You
To be successful in the role you will have:
Essential:
- Proven experience as a Registered Nurse in a Primary Health Care environment.
- Demonstrated experience and competence in clinical problem solving at an advanced level.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate and evaluate increasingly complex client care across the Primary Health Care continuum.
- Experience in the delivery of primary health care services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander males.
- High level nursing knowledge and skills to assess, plan, implement and evaluate client care.
- Demonstrated competence in compliance with clinical environment requirements, particularly in relation to infection control and management of the cold chain process.
- High level knowledge of legislation, standards, policies and procedures relevant to contemporary nursing practice in Primary Health Care.
- Knowledge of the issues that impact on the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander males, particularly within remote communities.
- Advanced interpersonal and communication skills including consultation, negotiation and conflict resolution that support holistic Primary Health Care.
- Proven ability to work effectively as a member of a team with an ability to facilitate, promote and adapt to change.
- Understanding of the historical and contemporary issues that impact on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and their communities, particularly in Cape York.
- Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in accordance with community protocols and customs.
- Demonstrated understanding of the principles of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community control.
- Must be willing and have the ability to travel in Cape York either by light aircraft or 4WD as required.
Mandatory requirements:
- Degree qualification in Nursing
- Current registration with the Australian Health Practice Registration Authority (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse Division 1
- Queensland Immunisation Endorsement, or willingness to work toward and obtain the endorsement within a specified timeframe
- Family wellbeing training or willingness to work toward and obtain the endorsement within a specified timeframe
- Australian Federal Police Check or willing and able to obtain one prior to commencement
- Current Queensland Drivers Licence
