Wilkinson Engineering Pty Ltd is a locally owned company based in Darwin, offering high-quality engineering and fabrication solutions to local and international clients across the Oil & Gas, Mining, Earthmoving, Marine, and Construction industries. As we continue to experience significant growth, we are seeking a qualified and experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our expanding team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and create detailed earthmoving and heavy equipment solutions using Computer-Aided Design (CAD), adhering to engineering standards.
• Develop comprehensive 3D and 2D drawings (using SolidWorks) for tendering and fabrication purposes.
• Design and engineer new projects according to clients' specifications, including reverse engineering of existing designs and systems.
• Apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) standards to ensure precision in manufacturing processes.
• Participate in the design and production of piping, sheet metal parts, and related fabrication tasks.
• Collaborate with workshop teams to ensure the execution of high-quality designs from concept to final production.
• Liaise with clients on-site and off-site and internal teams to ensure project requirements and expectations are met, including project quotes and design assistance.
• Develop Bills of Materials (BOM) for cost estimation and production planning.
• Design and provide safety attachments and custom solutions for earthmoving equipment, ensuring optimal functionality.

Essential Skills and Experience:

• Mechanical Engineering with extensive experience in mechanical design and manufacturing support.
• Expertise in 3D CAD Design and SolidWorks, including experience with SolidWorks vLab (Virtual Laboratory).
• Proven ability in sheet metal design and fabrication, with hands-on experience in the design and production of metal parts.
• Strong background in welding and structural metal fabrication, including knowledge of welding methods, specifications, and metal structure design.
• Advanced knowledge of CAD/CAM software for product development, prototyping, and design optimization.
• Experience with reverse engineering, and the design of piping systems for various applications.
• Experience with 3D rapid prototyping and 3D printing (Markforged X7) to optimize part design and production processes.
• Knowledge of 3D laser scanning and hands-on experience with HandySCAN Black Elite for precision scanning.
• Strong QA/QC & Data Engineering skills, with experience in production database development, including the use of SQL and C# scripts/macros.
• Experience in automation and process optimization, using VBA and VSTA for SolidWorks.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, with an excellent understanding of heavy machinery and earthmoving equipment.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines, ensuring efficient project delivery.

Desired Qualifications:

• Relevant school qualification and at least 3 years of experience in the mechanical engineering or manufacturing field.

Salary: $75,000 – $85,000 (Based on experience)
