We are seeking experienced and passionate Disability Support Workers for our SIL Accommodation Services. Our SIL accommodation supports people living with complex and enduring disabilities, with many participants requiring 24-hour support.
As a Disability Support Worker, you will work collaboratively with participants by providing personalised one-to-one or two-to-one support. Your goal will be to help participants engage and enhance their daily living skills, strengthen relationships with families and carers, enhance social connections and community networks, and grow confidence and independence to live safely in the community.
About You:
We're looking for someone who:
- Has empathy and excellent people skills, experience in supporting clients with psychosocial disability, ABI's, intellectual impairments, personal care needs, and a sound understanding of NDIS requirements.
- Can work on a 24/7 rotating roster in the Brisbane North area with Participants living with neurological, intellectual and physical disability.
- Is passionate about supporting individuals to realise their full potential.
- Assisting with personal care, including assistance with bathing, toileting, dressing, and grooming
- Conducting manual handling tasks in accordance with safety guidelines
- Has experience supporting participants in Supported Independent Living, advocating for their choices, and empowering, supporting, and enabling participants to achieve their goals and live their best lives.
- Wants to build independence and capacity of participants with psychosocial disability, intellectual disability, mental health and/or physical health needs.
- Can evaluate every situation from a trauma-informed perspective and act in a manner that helps to enhance the lives of our participants and reduce the impact of trauma.
- Has experience working with individuals that have been significantly impacted by trauma and is consistent and reliable in all aspects of your service delivery.
- Has at least one year of experience managing challenging behaviours and providing positive behaviour support.
- Values honesty and integrity and has a proven track record when it comes to displaying these values in employment.
- Can set clear, consistent, and kind boundaries and can follow employment guidelines set out for you to the letter.
- Is flexible in your service delivery and can adapt to your surroundings and the needs of participants that require our support services.
- Is an empathic person who is a great listener and believes in precision and order.
Key Responsibilities:
- Experience in working with adults with intellectual impairments, ABI, and physical needs.
- Commitment to engaging with services within the scope of participant support plans, positive behaviour support plans, individual safety planning protocols, and programs.
- Comfortable with personal care, including assistance with bathing, toileting, dressing, and grooming.
- Provide intensive daily support to both young people and adults engaging with our services.
- Detailed shift reports, progress reporting, incident reporting, and other data capturing requirements during shifts.
- Manage and maintain complex health needs.
- Schedule and attend appointments and social events.
- Meal planning and preparation.
- Participation in recreational activities, including fitness and social related activities.
- Assistance with grocery shopping.
- Light cleaning and other domestic duties.
Essential Criteria:
- Willing to work shift work, including days, weekends, nights, active/inactive overnights across a 24/7 roster.
- A current Australian Drivers Licence.
- Right to work in Australia.
- Experience or qualification in manual handling techniques.
- Willing to transport participants where required.
- Hold a current First Aid/CPR certificate or be willing to obtain prior to commencement.
- Hold a current Working with Children Check and a NDIS Worker Screening Check or be willing to obtain one prior to commencement.
- Willingness to undergo a National Police Check upon employment.
- Enthusiastic about supporting people with psychosocial disabilities, intellectual disability, and/or mental health needs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- A 'can do' attitude.
