  • Salary range between $94,809 - $98,601 per annum depending on skills/experience, + superannuation.
  • Annual salary increase every year based on CPI.
  • Salary packaging (up to $15,899 a year, + meal/entertainment benefit of $2,650 a year).
  • 5 weeks annual leave per year + additional leave to cover the Christmas shut down period + 17.5% leave loading.

The role

This is a hands on role that will see you undertake field work and land management activities and ensure the ranger team operates in a safe and efficient way. You will liaise between the team leader, manager, and the ranger team on cultural matters.

Location

The position is based in Albany, with regular travel across the Wagyl Kaip Southern Noongar region

Full time, 37.5 hours per week

The Wagyl Kaip and Southern Noongar people are the Traditional Owners of the Great Southern Region, Western Australia. WKSN AC was formed as a result of the Southwest Native Title Settlement. WKSN AC has been established to assist Wagyl Kaip & Southern Noongar people to maintain, protect, promote and support their culture and manage the land and waters within their country. Key responsibilities:
  1. Help outfit the new WKSN AC Ranger depot in Albany.
  2. Purchase land management equipment (including vehicles).
  3. Help employ the WKSN AC Ranger Team.
  4. Support the day-to-day activities of the Land management Team.
  5. Support the WKSN AC Junior Ranger Coordinator with on Country field activities for the WKSN AC Junior Ranger Program where needed.
  6. Support the Ranger Manager and Lands Manager with budget acquittals, implementation of annual plans, invoicing and payment of expenses where appropriate.
  7. Implement (in cooperation with the Ranger Manager) the WKSN AC Ranger Operational and Business Plan.
  8. Ensure the WKSN AC Land Management Team (Ranger Team) is meeting Occupational health and Safety obligations and standards.
  9. Work with DBCA and other stakeholders (where appropriate) to arrange on country training, land management activities and Noongar cultural site protection.
  10. Work with WKSN Elders to ensure Noongar cultural safety for staff and protection of Noongar cultural sites and values.
  11. Implements regular reviews of staffing requirements including supervision and performance management of the WKSN AC Land Management Team (Ranger Team).
  12. Ensure equipment is maintained and secured and that journey management reports are processed daily.
  13. Assumes a training/mentoring role for trainee staff were applicable.
  14. Use the WKSN AC Land Management System (training will be provided)
  15. Other duties as required.
Selection Criteria:
  1. Aboriginality is considered an essential criterion.
  2. Experience working in a land related field such as land or environmental management, Aboriginal cultural heritage management.
  3. The ability to be able to communicate respectfully and effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  4. An understanding of Occupational and Health and Safety practices and obligations.
  5. The ability to be able to lead and supervise a Team to safely and efficiently undertake works in semi remote locations.
  6. The ability to be able to use basic computer applications and manage budgets and employees.
  7. Problem solving ability and initiative.
  8. TAFE or Tertiary qualifications in a land related field will be highly regarded.
  9. Experience/tickets in operating skid steers, tractors and other machinery (and power tools) highly regarded.
  10. Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to, engage effectively with the broader WKSN Noongar community and to liaise with government and corporate stakeholders.
