The Grounds Service Officer will perform a range of routine and specialised duties associated with development, maintenance and care of school property within an overall programmed approach. The role holder works with the Principal, Business Manager, and Grounds Service Senior Officer in contributing to the development of overall works programme.

Typical duties performed include, but not limited to:

  • Assist in the maintenance of playing surfaces, including setting up of greens, top dressing, fertilising under supervision, seeding, turfing, coring and sprigging.
  • Assist in the preparation of ovals for sporting events and carnivals.
  • Safely operate and maintain small machinery and plant, as required, considering risk to self and others.
  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of irrigation equipment
  • Assist in the equipment and plant maintenance repairs including carrying out tasks allotted under the grounds and gardens maintenance plan.
  • Removal of rubbish and debris from garden and grounds areas including the emptying of bins and disposing of waste material to maintain a clean, tidy and a litter-free school building and grounds environment.
  • Ensure facilities and equipment are secured after use.
  • Ensure the school and grounds are safe and secure reporting any breakages or vandalism.
  • Follow safety guidelines and procedures to ensure work is carried out in a safe manner having due regard for the health and safety of yourself and the school community.
  • Assist in the ordering and purchase of materials.

To be eligible to be considered for this role you will:

  • hold a Paid Employee Positive Notice Blue Card prior to commencement;
  • be eligible to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment; and
  • have a commitment to and understanding of the ethos and traditions of Catholic Education.
