Clinical Lead, NSW Formulary (Outpatients)
Clinical Excellence Commission
Where you'll be working
The Clinical Excellence Commission (CEC) is committed to providing leadership in safety and quality to improve health care for patients in NSW. The primary focus of the CEC is to promote, and support improved clinical care, safety and quality across the NSW public health system, and to meet functions specified by the Minister for Health. The CEC Strategic Plan places priority on delivering high performing reliable systems and ensuring safety and quality in the provision of healthcare for ‘every patient, every time’ is consistent across NSW Health.
What you'll be doing
The CEC is currently leading a reform program to establish and implement an state-wide medicine formulary for outpatient medicine use. The program aims to improve integration and reduce unwarranted variance in medicines use while maintaining appropriate clinical choice and improving value for money and security of supply through a more centralised approach to pharmaceutical procurement. The outpatient formulary will be incorporated into the existing NSW Medicines Formulary and include medicines approved for use in NSW public hospitals and health services, including approved indications, dose formulations and any prescribing restrictions. The outpatient medicine formulary must be developed according to quality use of medicines principles, especially with assessment of the evidence base and cost effectiveness of these medicines. We require a specialist clinical pharmacologist to support for the establishment and implementation of an outpatient medicines formulary and provide clinical advice to the CEC.
The Clinical Lead will be responsible for clinical leadership in developing, implementing, evaluating and promoting medication safety and quality initiatives in NSW. This program aims to build systems improvement and maintain strong collaborative relationships with clinicians, managers, and other staff, particularly at a Local Health District level, to help create a culture of safety, leadership to ensure systems of safety and reliable clinical care. A key responsibility will be building, developing, and sustaining credibility and effective working relationships with executives, specialist and trainee doctors, nurses and allied health professionals delivering clinical services.
