About the role:

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Thamarrurr Catholic College is looking for enthusiastic and engaging Generalist Secondary Classroom Teachers for an immediate start.

Applications for this role are welcomed from both experienced and graduate teachers.

An interest in working in remote Aboriginal education and a willingness to support the Catholic ethos of the school are important.

Context statement

Wadeye is a large remote Aboriginal community situated approximately 400km south-west of Darwin with a population of around 3000 people on Kardu Diminin land. The vast majority of local Aboriginal people speak Murrinhptha as a first language. There are over 20 clans from the surrounding Thamarrurr region residing in Wadeye and attending the school. Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Thamarrurr Catholic College operates a Family as First Teachers (FaFT) program, preschool, primary and secondary school.

Position Objective

As a Primary Classroom Teacher, you will be responsible for creating learning experiences and materials to deliver a set curriculum to support each student with their mental, physical, intellectual, and social development.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Implementing both formative and summative assessments of students’ performance in the curriculum subjects.
  • Conducting oneself in alignment with college policies and procedures
  • Conducting risk assessments for student participation in practical areas involving class-based activities to ensure the provision of safe environments.
  • Work collaboratively with all college staff including leadership to assist with the overall development of teaching and learning.
  • Using ICT effectively regarding student reporting processing and the design and delivery of modern and engaging teaching and learning experiences.
  • Maintaining and updating teaching qualification for the subject areas taught and Senior First Aid & CPR
  • Maintaining and continuing to perform in alignment with the AITSL professional standards for teaching.
  • Reflecting upon performance and continually engaging in the process professional development.
  • Have the ability to work with all members of the College Community (Teaching and non-teaching staff, parents, students and visitors.
  • Work alongside colleagues to plan and prepare schoolwork in accordance with curriculum guidelines.
  • With other members of the leadership team, assist in the development and implementation of the schools’ policies and procedures.
  • Adhere with all WHS processes and procedures.
  • To be responsible for the pastoral care of students.
  • To create and maintain an attractive, safe and engaging environment to enable positive learning to take place.
  • To collaboratively develop curriculum and teaching and learning for primary school students in alignment with the ACARA and EAL/D requirements.
  • To deliver dynamic teaching and learning experiences that meet the needs of individual students.
  • To be flexible in planning and classroom management.
  • To adjust programs of work and assessment tasks as required to cater for students with Individual Learning Plans and those on the NCCD.
  • To maintain and upload evidence of adjustments for students as required.
  • To maintain accurate and up to date records to inform reporting and decision making around learning including attendance and pastoral care notes.
  • To be involved in ongoing personal and professional learning as a member or our Professional Learning Community.
  • To work collaboratively in a bilingual teaching team to combine both ways of education to best support children's everyday learning.
  • To communicate effectively to build relationships and help in everyday practice.
  • Any other duties as specified by the Principal.

Scheduling Accountabilities

  • To attend meetings and professional learning sessions and participate in workplace decision making.
  • To meet with colleagues to plan, moderate, evaluate and discuss teaching and learning of students.
  • To encourage and participate in Parent/Student Learning conferences.
  • To deliver ongoing feedback and prepare written student reports at various intervals each year.
  • To meet with parents as requested.
  • To actively participate in a Professional Learning Community Team.
  • To participate in the professional practice of teacher observation.
  • To set goals, reflect on professional practice, engage in professional learning in a cyclic, structured manner.

Requirements

  • Candidates must legally be permitted to work in Australia and will be required to hold a current working with children Clearance notice (Ochre Card)
  • Hold relevant teaching qualifications.
  • Hold a NT Teacher Registration.
