QPTS are currently looking for experienced Mechanical Fitters and Metal Fabricators for permanent positions based at our Perth location, with opportunities to work across our Western Australian sites. Key Responsibilities:

Mechanical Maintenance Fitter

  • Conveyor roller change-outs
  • Conveyor belt cover installations
  • Belt condition monitoring
  • Pulley lagging repairs and replacements
  • Pulley and rubber chute relines
  • Analyse blueprints and technical drawings to determine job requirements, materials, techniques, and machining configurations.
  • Join metal sections and components using welding techniques and fasteners (bolts, screws, rivets).
  • Assemble fabricated metal parts into machinery and equipment, ensuring precise fit and functionality.
  • Inspect metal parts using precise measuring instruments; operate hand and power tools for adjustments.
  • Configure machining tools, adjust controls, and install cutting and shaping tools.
  • Conduct fault diagnosis, routine maintenance, and extensive repairs on mechanical and fluid power equipment.
  • Provide mechanical maintenance assistance, including:
  • Finalise products by cleaning, buffing, chiselling, and grinding welds.
  • Commit to and uphold strong workplace health and safety standards.

Metal Fabricator

  • Analysing blueprints and drawings to determine the appropriate materials, techniques, and sequence of actions to determine the job requirements, as well as configuring machine settings.
  • Integrating fabricated metal components into finished products and assembling metal parts and subassemblies to manufacture machinery and equipment.
  • Using precise measuring instruments to inspect fabricated and assembled metal parts for accuracy, fit, and join using hand and power tools
  • Configuring machining tools by adjusting guides, stops, and other controls, installing specified cutting and shaping tools and dies in machines and presses, and adjusting controls for textile machinery.
  • Select and prepare metal stock to suit specific job requirements
  • Shaping metal stock and castings to precise tolerances by employing machining tools such as hand tools, oxy heat / cutting, pressing, grinding, planning, boring, and drilling.
  • Cutting, threading, bending, and installing hydraulic and pneumatic pipes and lines.
  • Finish final product or welds through cleaning, buffing, chiselling and grinding ready for production
  • Potentially assembling machines and equipment at the installation site.
  • General mechanical maintenance work on fixed plant machinery, with a heavy focus on the repair and servicing of mining industry conveyor belt components

About You
To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Trade certificate in Mechanical Fitting or Metal Fabrication or proven relevant experience/training.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in mining as a Mechanical Maintenance Fitter or Metal Fabricator
  • Current driver’s licence.
  • Confined Spaces and Working at Heights tickets.
  • Strong knowledge of fixed plant machinery, conveyor systems, and belt installations, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Proven experience with routine inspections, reporting, and fault diagnostics.
  • Excellent communication skills and a problem-solving mindset.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and workflow responsibility.
  • Experience working with Quality Management Systems.
