About VACCHO
VACCHO is the peak representative for the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Victoria.

We have 33 member Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations providing support to over 78,000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the state. We lead and support Aboriginal Community Control and the broader health and social services sector to deliver transformative health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal communities in Victoria. This role is a maternity leave cover position ending on the 31st January 2026.

About the role

The Executive Manager, Policy will support VACCHO’s Executive to lead VACCHO’s policy development, advocacy and campaigning, which includes supporting VACCHO to maintain relationships with Ministers, Parliamentarians, senior civil servants and sector stakeholders. The Executive Manager, Policy will contribute to VACCHO being a strong voice for Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and influencing policy across the range of health issue areas.

The position is also responsible for managing the secretariat functions of the Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing Partnership Forum, Koori Caucus and associated working groups. The Executive Manager- Policy role will be expected to lead specific projects, contribute to the strategy of the organisation, lead and develop the Policy team members. The Executive Manager will work closely with Executive Directors and staff in their business units to guide their policy and advocacy positions.

Essential skills/experiences

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • 4 years’ experience working in policy development, campaigning and advocacy with a record of influencing policy and exceptional stakeholder-engagement, relationship-building, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • demonstrated experience managing a small team.

Desirable

  • Good public speaking skills
  • A flexible approach, with strong organisational and planning skills, including the ability to effectively manage time and workload, prioritise tasks, and meet changing circumstances, competing demands, interruptions, and deadlines
  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples are strongly encouraged to apply as your cultural and lived experiences are central to the work we do.

VACCHO is the peak Aboriginal health body representing 100% of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) in Victoria.
