The Role

Strategy, Policy and Industry (SP&I) Group is seeking executive assistants to support our mission. As an executive assistant in SP&I, your responsibilities will place you squarely in the eye of the storm, supporting crucial business requirements across the Group.

The roles are demanding ones - but the rewards are more than equal to the challenges. These executive assistant roles are responsible for a range of key business needs in their Division.

While the roles are varied depending on the particular requirements of each division, you could expect to take on a broad range of tasks including providing executive support to the Division Head, coordinating the flow of tasks and information across the Division, ensuring sound records and information management, maintaining workforce structures, handling human resource requisitions, administering Divisional security requirements, and implementing sound corporate governance.

To be successful in these roles a candidate will be outcome-focused with a high level of attention to detail and be able to engage constructively and provide assistance to a range of critical stakeholders; including Senior Executives.

About our Team

SP&I Group is a fully integrated civilian-military workforce, drawing on high quality and motivated people from diverse backgrounds and academic disciplines who embody Defence and Australian Public Service values.

We offer flexible working arrangements and a range of formal and informal professional development opportunities. While we offer a high degree of flexibility in the way we work, each position is located in Canberra. As such, successful applicants from outside Canberra would need to relocate to Canberra.

Working within SP&I Group is more than just a job; it offers opportunities over the course of a career to work across diverse national security and policy matters of national and international significance. We actively support mobility within the Group when the time is right, but we also value our people developing their expertise in specific areas.

Our Ideal Candidate

Our ideal candidate has excellent attention to detail, demonstrated experience managing competing priorities and exceptional time management skills. The right candidate for these roles will thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment where they can work independently to help deliver key national security objectives.

To be successful in one of these roles you need:

  • demonstrated experience providing high-level support to Senior Executives
  • good problem solving skills, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to deliver high quality outcomes, ensuring attention to detail and consistency
  • highly developed communication and stakeholder management skills and ability to be a collaborative part of the team
  • ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
  • ability to coordinate tasks effectively, multi-task and manage competing priorities
  • ability to think strategically with limited direction and thrive in a busy workplace with competing priorities
  • ability to successfully develop and implement Divisional administrative procedures.

Application Closing Date: Sunday 23 March 2025.
