The School of Special Educational Needs: Medical and Mental Health (SSEN: MMH) is seeking to establish a pool of teachers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, part-time vacancies (0.6 FTE) which may arise during the 2025 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Suitable applicants will be based at, and will support outreach from the following regional centres:

  • Kimberley region – Kununurra
  • Pilbara region – Karratha and Port Hedland
  • South West region – Bunbury, Busselton, and Albany

The Role

Suitable applicants will ideally apply their comprehensive education knowledge within the interdisciplinary team at the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) located at the regional centre to support the educational, medical and psychosocial needs of students and serve as a link between Health and Education.

The main objective of the role is to consolidate and develop health and education partnerships by improving communication and collaboration between CAMHS and schools in the Western Australian regional areas. SSEN:MMH teachers enhance educational outcomes for students with mental health issues, and improve liaison between CAMHS clinicians, schools, and regional staff in support of students reaching their potential.

The suitable applicants possess a breadth of curriculum knowledge and sound understanding of education systems. You would be able to provide comprehensive information and develop strategies to assist schools to enhance outcomes for referred students. The role requires sound knowledge of education across years K-12 and the associated pedagogy, tact and diplomacy, effective negotiation skills and empathy. Working collaboratively with others and being open to their opinions and perspectives is highly desirable to ensure that as a team we that meet school and vulnerable student needs.

The School of Special Educational Needs: Medical and Mental Health

SSEN: MMH is one of seven specialist schools within Statewide Services. SSEN: MMH provides educational support for students whose medical or mental health prevents them from successfully participating in their enrolled school programs. The SSEN: MMH administrative centre is based at Perth Children’s Hospital in Nedlands, with metropolitan programs in hospital and community health settings across sites in the north and south metropolitan educational regions and community health settings across regional educational regions in WA.

Our teachers work with interdisciplinary health teams, as well as collaboratively with other teachers and support staff. These teams assist us meet the educational, medical and psychosocial needs of students ensuring continuity of education.
