Title: Experienced Apiarist

ANZSCO Code: 121311

Key Duties & Responsibilities

· Leading and managing process of breeding and raising of Queen Bees

· Training and supervising other apiarists

· Recording accurately the catching of Queen Bees for local and international market

· Producing, harvesting and extracting honey/honeycomb

· Royal Jelly, Pollen, Bees Wax and Propolis production

· Planning and organising for brood nest management operations

· Inspecting bee sites for good breeding conditions and honey production

· Effectively Identifying, controlling and managing diseases like American & European Foulbrood

· Loading and unloading beehives during migratory time

· Checking and re-queening beehives regularly

· Preparing and packing bees for local and international market

· Monitoring and maintaining the health and condition of the bees

· Be competent in all facets of hive management, queen rearing, and hive splitting

· Building beehives

· Grafting Cells

· Feeding bees with sugar syrup when required

· Monitoring hives for varroa mite through alcohol wash and equipment and site maintenance

· Keeping accurate hive movement records utilizing GPS Co-ordinates and notifying DPI of hive locations

· Must be reliable & hard working

· Have excellent time management skills with an ability to work within a team or unsupervised

Qualifications & Skills

· Relevant Vocational or Tertiary Qualifications, and

· At least two years of relevant work experience consistent with the position’s expectations OR

· Five years of relevant work experience if no relevant qualification is available

The successful candidate will also be involved with our Pollination Services

It would be advantageous if the applicant possessed a Forklift Licence and a Truck Licence preferably a HR or MR.

The company is looking to expand significantly in the medium term so this will provide for future role development and growth.
